Jon and I were chatting t'other day (like you do) and the subject of a sally into Europe with our motors came up. We then got to the idea of a road trip to Le Mans with perhaps a day on the end picking up some of the old racing/Grand Prix circuits in northern France.

So to test the water, anyone fancy taking a trip in their pride and joy to Le Mans 24 hour 14 & 15 June 2008? Could be a bit of camping, plus a night in a hotel if we did the old circuits on the way back.

If there's enough interest shown then we can firm things up a little in November.

Whaddya think? :D

ps Jon said all 75's attending will be issued with go faster stripes so that they don't show the ZT contingent up! Cheek of it eh ;)

I think what I actually said was that R40 would be issued with a go faster driver? .:innocent:

This sounds like a nice idea.

I'd be interested, but I have to admit that the only item of camping equipment I posess is a rather moth-eaten sleeping bag...

Edited to add...

Just checked my diary, and we're away on hols that weekend. Darn!

This would be a trip from hell for my wife.......

Here's what I did this year.. drove to Rouen in France and stopped at a cheap little B+B. There was another crowd en route to Le Mans at the same hotel. Set off first thing Saturday for the 2hr drive to Le Mans. Slept in the car (in the car park) Saturday night and drove back to Rouen Sunday night. Set back for home Monday morning via a boozy fill-up. I had a great time.:D

The night in the car wasn't great but with such a lot going on it didn't really bother me.. I'll just take a sleeping bag next time. This way you don't have to take any camping equipment or pay the camping fees...... There were quite a few sleeping in their cars.

A good idea - but please remember that Le Mans is not a very large city and is likely to get booked up in no time at all for the date you mention! Advance booking is desperately important, otherwise you might have an hour's drive to get there.

I agree about booking early..... but I booked a couple of months before hand and there was plenty of car parking at the track where I was parked if sleeping in your car is an option......

Just thought I'd bring this thread back to life as I'm now looking at options for going to Le Mans.

Tickets are now on sale for the weekend of 14th and 15th June.

As SWMBO has given me the green light I'm thinking of doing what I did last yr.

If you need prices here's what I have got so far

P&O ferry from Dover on the Friday £45
1 night (Friday night) in the centre of Rouen about £37 (now booked)
1 night (Saturday night) in Le Mans car park £15
Le Mans ticket £46
1 night (Sunday night) about £37 (now booked)
Fill up with booze at one of the Hypermarkets (I'm still drinking the beer I got from last year.......:drunk:
P&O return ferry on the Monday £35

Calais - Rouen is about a 2hr drive as is Rouen to Le Mans. This is a dual carrage way and hardly any traffic at all.

The hotel I have in mind also has free wifi internet access as there are no pubs open on the Sunday night

I have been a regular to Le Mans since 1986. However, the only exception that I haven't been to the great race was last year - 2007. Have travelled down in a Rover 75 MK1, a ZT 190+ but not in my present mode of transport.

The first time I went in the 75 was 2000. Did that car get some looks. Remember, at the time the car was still reletaively new to the market. Believe it or not I was getting more head turners than Astons, Ferrari etc.

So who intends going?
