The 75 & ZT Owners Club

Following on from this thread http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=31457 we have set a date and a location for the first 75 and ZT meet in Ireland. :drool4:

THE DATE IS SATURDAY THE 22ND OF AUGUST 2009, and the location is the "An Dun Transport And Heritage Museum" in Doon, Athlone, Westmeath in the Republic of Ireland.

This being the most central location in Ireland for everyone who wishes to attend. We are hoping to make this into a family event and not just a outright car enthusasts meet, so we shall confirm that people may bring their children and familys for a good day out at the Museum along with meeting each other. In other words, this is not a "cruise" or any such style of event.

To quote from the An Dun reviews regarding the facility itself....

An Dun Transport & Heritage Museum

Transport & Heritage Museum offers a unique private collection of transport and heritage lovingly restored by its owners. Experience the fascination and excitement of this unique treatment of by-gone days openly displayed for your enjoyment.

http://www.countywestmeath.com/Pics/an_dun_transport___heritage_museum_westmeath.jpg

An Dun (Doon), meaning mound or hill is an area steeped in history. From the monastic resting place for pilgrims on their way to Clonmacnoise, to the castle of the great Mooney clan, whose origins go back to 150 A.D. It is built on the Sli Mor or Chariot Way, one of the five ancient roads of Ireland. Cars on Display include the popular Bullnose Morris Cowley of the 1920's, right up to the modern classic Morris Minor. View a unique and rare Shelvoke & Drewry truck of the 1920's. Let your imagination wander down memory lane as you view a trap or side car, or wonder at the intricacies of the Penny Farthing bicycles and pre & post-war cycles complete with carbide lamps.

Ballinahown, is techincally just over the county border in Co. Westmeath, but is considered part of "Ely O'Carroll Country." It is well worth a visit to see the Hanniffy family's collection of old cars and other forms of transport including a cable car display.

The Heritage Collection and Farm display features a unique collection of carefully refurbished farm implements including a Garvey Mill dating from 1932, early combine harvesters, many of the horse drawn implements and farm utensils and mass produced post-war tractors.

For train buffs, there is a European model railway. Every object has an interesting story behind it and Kieran and Connie Hanniffy are there to tell it. Facilities include a café and "Buyer's Corner" shop. Open daily from Easter to the end of October.

A video presentation will explain the background to many of the exhibits, enhancing your knowledge of the time. This unique interpreted display of hundreds of exhibits will create hours of enjoyment and nostalgia.

This is the exact address below, along with contact details for the facility.

Quite fancy a trip to the Emerald Isle ;)We would love to have you :)

The Hodson Bay Hotel is probably the best known in the area: http://www.hodsonbayhotel.com/special-offers

I stayed there a few years back and its very nice but a bit expensive. Look at the specials here: http://www.hodsonbayhotel.com/special-offers

I think you are correct in that its only a crossroads and pub - there is a pic of the pub if you select "photos" in the "more" options, although it has probably changed a bit by now :D. It looks to be about 15 miles from Athlone. I must try it in my sat nav.

Also, its only a few miles from the famous monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise, which is worth a look if you have the time.

so the museum is in doon/area?That would appear to be the case.

I will bring along my OBD diagnostic tester and service reset gizmo on the day if anyone wants to have a go.

MacGyver
7th July 2009, 15:37
Yeah it is, its a case of finding it when you get in the area from the local sign age, as ive already enquired regarding that on the lack of direct appearance.

As for the OBD setup bits, that would be cool.
