They are so incredibly gorgeous Jeff. Why oh why are such beautiful creatures abandoned like this, it's totally beyond me.

I know......mad world we live in:eek:

The sad thing is there are so many schemes out there for helping peeps get their pets neutered for the price of a packet of fags and four tins of larger there is really no excuse for all the unwanted kittens and pregnant cats !

It is for this very reason the rescue never homes kittens at Christmas.
They should become part of the family unit, not toys to keep till the novelty wears off!

They are just so beautiful. Kept a close eye on our ladies last night. 3 were watching the Parent Trap in our bedroom with the volume up, 2 were watching TV with us in the lounge and the eldest was asleep on the sofa beside me.

I kept mine in although I'm lucky in that they don't seem bothered by the fireworks.

Milly likes to sit in the window and watch them and the others just do their usual thing, thankfully:}

Not so sure how the cats at the rescue get on though as a few of our residents are of a nervous disposition :o

whitevanman 6th November 2014 09:48

Lovely pics Jeff :} We have recently lost the last of our brood to feline Peritonitous. I did say that we wouldn't get more furry friends for a while and have a break from animals of any kind but after three weeks we realise we miss having them around too much..

Soooo, if you could PM details of the home etc and next time Hayley is off we will pop up, probably be a couple of kittens tbh although you never know.

Best wishes
Steve

PaulPJ 13th November 2014 11:56

Todays visit was good but most are stressful. I have security clearance for most of the bases but still have to jump through hoops when I need to do something on their servers. Todays would have been better if I hadn't have forgotten my glasses.

Hi Jeff, meet our new member of the family,

Attachment 42062

She is a one year old Tabby that turned up at our local shelter ready to give birth, she has had her litter and they have all been adopted, but she has been overlooked, so once her litter is gone and her milk has dried up she will go to the vets and be spayed before taking up residence with us

Simply delightful Jeff. We lost one of our ladies last thursday, she had renal problems and although the vets had her on a drip for 2 days she would not respond and when they told me she had no quality of life the decision was made. I miss Suki terribly and the other ladies do too but she is at peace now.

So sorry to hear of your loss Paul, it's really heartbreaking when we lose one of our companions.
Take comfort in the time you had together and that you done the kindest act of all to not let her suffer.

Maybe post a picture of Suki up on here as a lovely reminder to you.

100% cuteness Jeff (the kitten not you.). Having lost Suki 2 weeks ago another of our ladies; Splodge, is now sick. The vets are pretty sure it's Lymphoma, we should get the results back this afternoon.

Ros and I lost two last year within a short space of time and it was a really sad time.

Here's a quick pic of our adopted stray "Jones" residing in her latest sleeping spot (she changes her spot every few months):

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/s...111_121549.jpg

She's a real survivor, having been a stray for 2 years or more before moving in with us. We had cause to take her to the vets a couple of years back when she fell ill over Xmas. They kept her in and, while doing various scans, x-rays etc, discovered that some years previously she had been shot and she still has the pellet in her chest to this day.

He/she has only just arrived along with his/hers three brothers/sisters.
The other grey cats and the dark coloured tabby.
They are victims of a divorce and are all very good natured puddy tats.
It is unlikely they will all be homed together but we are going to try and pair them for new homes :)

Merry Christmas Jeff :)

We have just taken in one kat and three kittens from the rescue in Nairobi. The kittens are from the same mum and we are getting the vet round to check them out for health and the jabs, bless their little hearts. They are living at the stables and will be joined by 2 donkeys, from the donkey rescue once the papers are done :)

Now that the weekend is here, I will see if I am lucky. The little cats will be chasing the mice and rats out of the stables and as the cats get bigger they will have many trophies to parade and show off :) At the moment the cats are quite illusive learning their way and getting to know and used to the dogs. The dogs won't touch them. Jeff, we are so lucky having them ...the kittens look so cute with pretty green eyes x

Hi Ray,

It's really not difficult to help out, the hard part is not bringing everyone of them home:D
Two of our kittens have found their forever home with one of our members on here ( Thanks Jay:bowdown:) and I like to let peeps see the cats that come into us as they are all in need of loving homes so it's all good exposure for them:}

I'm glad to say that we haven't had a massive influx of unwanted cats and kittens over the festive period and hopefully it will stay that way into the New Year!

The reason I didn't post much over Christmas on this thread is that we will not generally home cats and kittens over the Christmas period as it runs the risk of more unwanted cats being turfed out when not wanted.

I shall be back over the rescue on Wednesday and hopefully get some more photos to post up of our little furry friends:}

Forgot to post this one of Poppet the other day.

Good morning Jeff, thanks for posting up the photos of the rescue. Nothing what I had expected, clean and warm looking. I hope that people reading about the work you do as volunteers will take the opportunity to help out by making a donation. Every pound goes to saving a cats life, for a better tomorrow. It is heart warming to see the photos Jeff. Please do keep posting :)

Thanks Phil,

When Ros and I first went to the rescue all of the Pens were wooden construction.

Over the years they have gradually been replaced by the Upvc units that you see today.
These are much easier maintenance and also easier to clean and keep hygiene standards up.

All of the pens have doors on the individual units that have cat flap access back into the cats main area and have either heat pads or tubular heaters in them so the cats can keep nice and warm and out of the wind should they choose :}

All donations helped to upgrade the living quarters for our guests and continue to pay for the food, veterinary bills and all other ongoing expenses.

We are always grateful to any donations given either in money, cat food or unwanted re saleable items for the charity shop:bowdown:

Well done Jeff for all your good work you do.

We Th wife and I have just spent a good half an hour or so viewing your delightful friends.

We have had many cats that latch onto us.. my wife mainly (for some reason they carnt resist her). Boots our cat came one day for th first time suffering from a very nasty feral nature.:eek: Took 2 years before he decided not to hit us any more (claws out!!!) Had him 8 years now. A lot of effort for so little return but hes worth it. You can pick him up now but wont stay on our knees. Love him to bits though.

Looks can be deceiving...!

This is why lampshade had her collar on.

She arrived at the Vets as a stray brought in after a road traffic accident.

No microchip and no notifications have come in for a lost calico cat.
Her tail had to be amputated but she is doing fine without it and now had her stitches removed.
She really is a lovely cat and hopefully will find a loving home soon:}

It's very hard not bringing them all home;)

Although Molly, Jo Jo, Cubby, Milly and Fliss out of our cats did come from Crescent Cat Rescue:}

Teflon 5th March 2015 07:23

In general, how/why do they get to be in the home? Are they unwanted (!) pets, or are do they tend to be kittens?

Cliff

A mixture of un-neutered cats sprogging off unwanted kittens, people's change in circumstances, strays with no microchip, cats abondened at the front door of the rescue in the middle of the night and so on!

It's a never ending conveyer belt, as soon as you re home one another arrives to take their place.

My one bit of advice to everyone on here is to make sure your cats ( and dogs ) are microchipped.

All animals that come to us are scanned and if a chip is found then we set the wheels in motion to contact the owner whom's details are on the chip.
Equally if you move ( a very stressful time for cats and the most likely time for them to run off ) make sure you notify the microchip company and update your contact details.

Many, many cats get reunited with their owners due to micro chipping and even if the worse happens and your cat/dog gets killed, if the council retrieve it or its handed in to a veterinary practice it will be scanned and at least you get closure .

Teflon 5th March 2015 07:53

Some good advice there Jeff, and something I've never given thought to if I'm honest. I'll have to break the bad news to Jones that she'll be having a visit to the vets very shortly.

Thanks,

Cliff

It's such a quick and simple procedure he/she won't know it's even been done.

Best of all for me is I now have a micro chip reading cat flap that reads their chip and only lets my cats in;):D

Unicorn1 5th March 2015 08:14

Some more great pics there Jeff, those two gingers are adorable! With regard to micro-chipping ours were done as kittens, and we have a flap that recognises them. Good point about people moving home and updating the chip - something I would not always think about.

She had cat flu when she was a kitten and has various complications from having that.
One of which is runny eyes and sneezes and also it has affected her growth.
This is why she is a resident and won't be rehomed, in all likelihood she will not make old bones as her immunity is not great .
