Premium Grill
I have altered the centre part of the grill and changed the MG badge.
Having done all this - car is now for sale. If anyone is interested take a look at Ebay number 190684301460. All the details are there. If you fancy a Premium Grill on your facelift ZT or 75, take a look at my pictures. With access to a Bridgport mill, I managed to do the whole thing as you see it for including bumper purchase for under £200. |
What pics ? Dont forget if u sell more then 6 a mth u need to be a trader and pay up. Your car looks ace. Btw

|
Congratulations on an excellent job. Will we get full details
cheers John |
Now one of those might tempt me into buying a facelift :D
|
Looks good.
Want to elaborate how it was done for under £200, i'm sure there's plenty of members interested. |
I recon that the surround has been cut out from an alloy sheet.

Any chance of a PRE-FACELIFT ?????? |
Would love to know more about how you done it.have every thing bar the surround.Yours looks great.
|
Thanks for all the positive comments.
The hardest part was making the stainless surround, it was made up of four stainless strips (to answer rover54) but they were quite hard work to machine. Bumper £85 posted from Ebay, stainless mesh from local stainless fabricating company £25, stainless strips (Ebay) £35 posted, free Mondeo front foglights, Milliput resin £14, badge £6, cans of paint and lacquer £30. |

I don't intend to make any more at all. I was merely showing that it is possible to make something without spending a fortune on a few pieces of plastic. Glad you like the look. Cheers, Simon. |
Now that looks the biz:} My colour too:D

Hi Simon
As we say down here "proper job" and obviously made by a real craftsman..Hope to get to see it one day maybe you will come along to one of our South West meets.. Cheers Ian |
Thanks Ian,
I'm between Yeovil and Sherborne, so not too far away. Might be interested in South West meets, a lot seem to be in The Midlands or North. I'm about five miles from Haynes at Sparkford. All the best, Simon. |

Thanks. All the best, Simon. |

Bit of a game really. For the surround I made a template out of smooth card (which is not that easy) as you have to take into account, the bends above and below the number plate area. I had four pieces of stainless bar which I shaped on a mill, polished and then got a friend to weld into the square(ish) shape also tacking four stainless countersink bolts to the back to attach to the bumper. All the best, Simon. |
Looks very good.
How did you do the MG badge surround? |
You have done a sterling job, that cannot be denied, all credit to the work you have put in. But for the relatively small extra cost, the MG7 surround would look far superior on a ZT, pic below is a prime example. You are soon to see another

I like the yellow, it's unusual. MG7 surround looks good too. I'm intrigued, how much did your plastic one cost and where do we buy those from? Simon. |
I think the next question is.....how much is the Chinese surround and how much to make *Zimons* ? I think *Zimon* may become a popular member :D
|
the car looks great mate good job, if you can do more of these for members cars for that price, then i would jump at the chance... COUNT ME IN:D:D

I like this alot even more than the MG7 grille.Looks more original.A little fetteling and it would be perfect.Think this is the way to go for me.This is the only bit I need to get my bummper ready to fit less painting it.

I know it's not perfect, but I think the stainless concept is more individual and better quality than some of the alternatives. With more patience than I have, you'll do a more impressive job. You could even tweak the shape, for something a bit more daring or different. I haven't ruled out doing another one at some stage, as the basic bumpers are so reasonable. All the best, Simon. |
A first-class job. Tremendously well done. You should be very proud.
Regards, David |
