I've jusy found a petrol flap in that colour in my bits box, want it?

Briodyjl01 20th July 2022 14:08

Thank you. One was on the dash and came with the car.

HI Josh.

What are you cleaning the seats etc with they have come up nice, vanish soap bar is good to use.

What little parts are you needing, soon i will be having a clear out of my boxes in the shed, and if i have anything you need it can be yours for postage cost.

I am sure anyone else whom is having a clear out might chip in as well?

Good afternoon.

To clean the seats I’m using the standard autoglym leather car set.

At the moment I believe the old girl needs

- Complete exhaust
- 2 serpent centre caps
- Half of the wheel nuts are missing
- Ashtray assembly where the ash tray/ cup holder and 12v is as the one that came with it was damaged and not the original
- pair of early wing mirrors (someone in the past had fitted later power folds and there’s only one now and no switch)
-2 x engine bay vac pipes
- front left indicator
- early ‘ROVER’ fog lights
-rear of the two lamba sensors
- handbrake cables as they have been cut through
- manual winding handle for sunroof
- door looms

There will be more like the abs wires I think but haven’t checked yet

Briodyjl01 24th July 2022 22:25

After being in my lock up for a week or so. The old girl is at my house now ready to be stripped for work to commence.

Hi Josh. I have all four door looms (non powerfold) one serpent centre cap (but with facelift badge) and a complete ashtray/ cigarette lighter/ cupholder assembly. Pm me your address and I'll get them posted up to you.
Kind Regards Graham

Hello All.

Just a little update on the old girl.

I have cleaned all the wet leaves and rubbish from the floors and removed a lot of the previous bodged wiring.

Not in the photos but I have also sourced a full high line nav kit with HK aswell.

This has also been wired in.

Dropped some parts off For Josh that I had acquired and had a quick look around the car, Wow what a project to take on!
That said the car undoubtedly has a charm about it that draws you in. Cannot wait to see how this turns out.
Josh, I have found one front fog light if you want it. not sure what side though :o Do you have the V6 engine cover, think I have one of those as well.

Hello all,

I have some more updates on the restoration of S544 AOX.

Since my last post
· Fitted a full aftermarket exhaust system as the original was missing
· Fitted the wiring for an original high line system (still having issue with this)
· Replaced the damaged bonnet hinge
· Repaired the bonnet hinge threads
· Replaced sticky bonnet latches
· Cleaned and ceramic coated the original red spare wheel and wheel well
· Sourced an original chrome grill
· Sourced a drivers cup holder as the original was missing
· Repainted the wingmirror caps sourced via Stocktake above
· The best thing was she is now running. Starts first flick of the key.

Thank you

Josh

Good afternoon all.

Progress has been a little quite as of late. Other projects ect.

I have been trying to retro fit a full highline system and this week finally sorted it. So the old girl now has a full Harmon and Highline nav.

Regards

Josh

Lagetha 22nd September 2022 14:52

Josh,

Looks like you are doing a fine job, I hope to see it finished at a show sometime in the future

Kevin

Briodyjl01 26th October 2022 23:04

Since I last commented on this thread a few jobs have been done.

- The highline system is now all fitted and is working (screen flickering but working)
- fitted a replacement front calliper as one was missing only to find the bleed nipple was seized solid and snapped off (job for another day.
- replacement blue wing mirror caps painted moonstone till I get some decent priced chrome caps.
- I have sourced some replacement body panels from a later longbridge car
- The replacement front and rear bumpers spiced above have had the bottoms painted black until I can find some correct Cowley moonstone ones.
- genuine parking sensors fitted into the bumper
- one of the door cards refitted
- parking sensor kit made up from genuine parts.

A few other parts have been sourced now for the old girl such as a drivers cup holder, power steering pipes, all the missing interior screws.

I’m looking at also fitted an auto dimming interior mirror.

If anyone wants to speak about this car I am happy and willing to do so at the NEC where my other half with the forum name Afirth1369 will be displaying her T Reg 1.8 launch car on the 75 and ZT owners club stand. Feel free to ask questions.

JJay 29th October 2022 14:02

Great to see the progress being made and a very interesting car. Floors look in great condition. It deserves to be saved and appears to be in very capable hands. As i said to you when we met at Ripley i love the colour combination Moonstone with aubergine leather. You are going to have a very special car when finished and will fit in well with your fleet. Do you know when it was built?

Briodyjl01 29th October 2022 16:26

Thank you!

The build date for it is 19/01/1999.

After picking up a sunblind from a very respected forum member at the NEC it is now fitted. I sourced a switch. The wiring in this car is all fully there. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d3d954aaed.jpg

In the last couple of days some work on S544 AOX has been done.

The original drivers door has got rust all along the bottom edge and side. So I had sourced a replacement. When removing the original I have found it to has had a replacement skin fitted. This is why it was rusting I think.

Original door lock removed from the old door and fitted to the replacement.

Note the original is pre production item as it has a black rear surround not like the standard white ones.

Front drivers door card fitted for the first time aswell.

Rear drivers aftermarket speaker removed and replaced with genuine harmon Kardon item.
The link cable for the rear latch was also broken so that needed changing.

The door card was refitted for the first time aswell.

Both doors got replacement switch packs and interior handles as these were all missing.

Thank youhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c194e2a703.jpg

I have to applaud your industry and knowledge in refurbing this car - cannot wait to see when finished.

bl52krz 31st December 2022 21:33

Just like to say Josh, what energy you are putting into this project. You will have a car that you can truly call your own when finished. It is a labour of love for sure. I wish you all the best for 2023, and the highlight that awaits you when finished. You must be the most dedicated Rover 75 owner on this forum. Happy New Year Josh.

Thank you. All our cars are a labour of love. Love a good project car. It deserves to get restored back to its former glory. Especially with it being a prototype and one of the only ones we know of in this colour combination.

Briodyjl01 2nd January 2023 17:16

A little update from today. I took the carpet out to route the highline wiring properly or more in a better way, I changed an airbag sensor whist it was out due to the car previously being full of water.
The carpet has now been put back down for the last time.
The outer kick panels are now back in, the traction control ECU and BCM were both hanging down so they have been put back where they belong.
The drivers door seal has been replaced as that was another one of the many things that was missing.
The big pile of parts is slowly getting smaller and smaller. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...bd254a93ee.jpg

Thank you.

The condition of the car is no where near as bad it was originally made out. It is very clean underneath apart from one rear sill end that has rusted and the jacking point on that side too. The rest is still very tidy underneath.

There was a rats nest of aftermarket wiring fitted but that has been removed and the door wiring looms could actually be saved with just a new connector in each one for the door speakers.

The old girl is getting there now.

Tonight I swapped out the old original plugs from S544 AOX. They were way past their best. Nice new set of NGK ones fitted. Runs abit smoother and no lumpy idle after revving like before.

I haven’t given any update for a while.

I have been struggling to get it running right recently. I replaced a few sensors and still nothing.
So I decided to remove the inlet, clean it out as well as a few other small things. The engine idles as it should now and when revved it settles back down as it should too.

Due to not getting good pedal when bleeding the brakes I took the decision to replace all of the brake pipes. Hard lines and flexi.

Yes i did, dropped the front two tank strap bolts the loosened one of the rear strap bolts. pulled the tank down a little and managed to get my hands in to unclip it.

Briodyjl01 28th February 2023 18:32

A few little things tonight. The original front passenger brake calliper was missing so to move the car around I fitted a spare drivers front calliper. After a little searching I found a new reman one a from my local autofactors (ASK Kippax if you are in West Yorkshire)

When I was in the wheel arch I removed the broken liner and cleaned the metal work. Not looking bad for a car that has sat since May 2010.

Enjoying the updates and seeing the work progress . If it ends up like your other cars its going to be a nice car when finished. I love the colour combination and its great that you were able to rescue this car. Its too important for it to disappear.

The passenger side inner rear sill is original and the drivers side has been replaced. I’ve painted the inner drivers side to try and match the look of the passenger side.

I painted the sills body colour first then black. This is to replicate the original. The body colour isn’t perfect but it doesn’t need to be as it’s just to add authenticity.

Some little updates on S544 AOX.

Some of the missing parts were sourced from the rotten W reg I’m breaking.

- handbrake cable holder
- Exhaust heat shield
- exhaust tunnel braces (will be painted later on)

I’ve changed the washer bottle to a headlight washer bottle from the breaker to fit the headlight wash front bumper from that car later on.

The radiator has also been replaced due to finding a leak.

I have finally got the traction control light out aswell.

Thank you.

I cannot remember if you have already done it, but check the flexi pipe that goes from under the nearside wing to the intake. You might find it’s disintegrated.

Since the last update... Now the MOT is done I'm going through adding as much items as possible.

The old girl now has

A full set of correct working power fold mirrors with chrome caps.

Cruise control retro fitted and working

Self-dimming interior mirror, (not working fully so still need to look at)

I still have to fit a few items.

Headlight wash
Heated washer jets
Curtain airbags (Maybe if the kit doesn't sell)

As well as fitting the original options I have given the paintwork some attention. One side has been color sanded to remove a lot of the scratches and scuffs from it being off the road a long time and then a full polish to correct it. I’m not a expert in this kind of thing but she looks tidy now. Not perfect but without a full respray it never will be (don’t want to paint it anyway)

I am finding a few issues now I’m driving it like a few noises here and there but monitoring them to find what they are. This was expected after it has been off the road for nearly 13 years.

Thank you

So after all the hard work the target was set. S544 AOX went to pride of longbridge with her factory registered ex management pool car sister V149 LOE.

They both got some good attention given. Thank you to everyone who came to say hello.

Just the other day I noticed something about S544 AOX. So you have all seen the state she was in when I got her with parts missing ect. To my surprise I found the wheel jack that was with the car is actually the original one from week 44 1998!

A few small jobs have been done on the old girl yesterday and today.

A faulty ABS sensor replaced and a number of parts have been removed and are now at the powder coaters ready to get a nice glossy black finish to complete the engine bay refresh that I never got round to doing originally.

Whilst the parts are at the powder coaters I thought would crack on with cleaning some other bits up. Last night I clean up the two drivers side ally engine mounts. To keep them this way I gave them a couple of nice coats of clear. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...79ddb87d61.jpg

Quality finish! Almost a shame it’s under the car an won’t be seen. Did you need to open up some of the holes to fit it back together? I found I had to on some motorcycle bits I had powder coated.

S544 AOX updates and restoration

A little update from the last few days….

The bonnet I replaced before getting 507 on the road has been painted internally pretty bad so I have stripped that and repainted it.

The scuttle was completely wrong when I painted red it before so a new fresh paint has given it the correct finish.

I’ve fitted headlight wash to the bumper.

A lot of the new fresh powder coat has been fitted.
Slam panel, traction mount, power steering bottle bracket, engine mount, engine steady bar, horn brackets, ppd bumper screws, wiper arms.

Aswell as this a few parts have been given the plastic primer, semi gloss black and satin clear treatment. These included headlight washer jets, scuttle, traction control actuator, wheel nuts, bonnet pins, fog light grills, lower middle grill, wiper arm nut covers, wind mirror bodys. And anything else I can’t remember.

All the rusty bolts removed and replaced. They were replaced with bolts that I cleaned up with a wire brush on a drill and clear coated to protect them.

The alternator and surrounding allly parts have been cleaned up, according to pipes polished, cruise control bellows replaced with a nos one and the same with the bracket for it.

Also did a full service on the engine and the gearbox.

Thank you.
