Engine cutting at high revs
Hi guys
Just been for a run out with wife and kids and i've noticed a problem with the 75, its a 1.8T SE Connie auto. I was in sport mode and had to floor the accelerator to overtake a wagon on a single carriageway once the revs went over about 4k the engine started bliping as though it was momentarily cutting out I droped the wife and kids off at home and took it on to the local dual carriageway to see if I could repeat it and i could All seems well in normal driving but when you have you foot down hard and the engine is over 4k it starts to stutter like a random mometary cut out every couple of seconds. Ive only had the car a month and this is the first time i noticed it although this is also the first time ive really floored it I'm begining to wonder if the car suits me, I had a Mondy ST24 before the 75 and im missing the manual g/box and stiffer suspension the mondy had. I'm by no means a boy racer and I usually drive quite sedately but the 75 is that softly sprung you really have to watch your speed in corners as it rolls alarmingly at higher corner speeds Anyway any ideas about the stuttering at high revs? Check the vac pipes to and from the turbo, I had exactly the same thing on mine when I bought it. Was it accompanied by a loud whooshing sound?

Can't say I can notice a whooshing sound but i'll check the pipes to the turbo

Checked the vacuum pipes and as far as i can see they are all intact and in good condition.

This could be an early sign of a detaching fuel filter. As the filter body unscrews, petrol delivery to the engine gets less and less adequate, causing hiccups during acceleration. When it finally separates, the engine simply won't start. It's easy to check and really does need eliminating from the equation. Fit the Orange Clip Gizmo while you're at it, you'll be glad you did.

Split pipe off turbo (1.8T) (MERGED with "Engine Cutting at High Revs")
Hi guys
Been having a good look around my engine bay to see if anything obvious is causing a slight misfire I have at high rpm (see my other posts) Anyway i've noticed on the main air tube coming from the left side (near side)of the turbo there is a smaller tube Tee'd into it on top and this seems to be split and there appears to be oil residue all around the split As there is oil around is this some kind of crankcase breather? and what effect on performance is this likely to have? Ive tried to take a photo of the split but it was difficult to get a good picture as it is tucked away under coolant hoses etc http://homepage.ntlworld.com/stuart.binns/joint.JPG |

The pipe i think you are talking about is a push fit into the rubber hose that fits from the turbo to the air filter box. Shove it back into the hole, it isnt held by anything and simply pushes in, although it should be a "snug" fit.
The black round boss is just a rubber "neck" for want of a better word. |
