Bonnet underside insulation panel
:} Currently checking out partially blocked windscreen washers and as part of that have the insulation panel off the underside of the bonnet. I have shaken/lightly beaten out the dirt/dust residue and given the fabric a light wire brushing (its a bit fragile) to take away the worst of the marks.
Just wondered if anyone goes to the extent of treating with perhaps some kind of black product (obviously has to be 100% heat resistant etc) to smarten up appearance? |
I cleaned mine with G101 then a wet vac
Worked a treat. |
For me the same, a very thorough (but gentle) deep clean with the wetvac restored the black color on mine. The sound deadening in the engine bay (underneath the windscreen), was faded a bit. A very light dab of (plastic) dressing fixed it for me.

The under bonnet insulation was quite tatty on my ZTT and was rubbing on the air con pipes, battery box lid and engine cover.
So I removed the insulation panel and spray painted the underside of the bonnet where it was bare primer. On removal of the insulation panel. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...pstkvvbofe.jpg Bonnet once painted and the insulation panel removed. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...psq06mkijz.jpg http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...psqmlpjvpq.jpg |
Thanks and what amazing pics. Cleanest engine bay anywhere I'd say.
(is there not a slight worry though of the bonnet surface becoming a bit too warm without protective insulation in place?) |

The heat issue was one think that concerned me before I removed the bonnet insulation pad, but most members advised this wwould not be a problem. Also I think V8 engined 75's and ZT's do not always have the bonnet insulation fitted and theae engines run a lot hotter than my diesel ZTT. So hopefully if the engine insulation pad is removed it should not be a problem. |
