my latest mods :)
Evening all,
Decided to spend the day working on my own car today, had a few things I've wanted to do for a while but was never getting round to it. Finally got round to fitting my blue alcantara door cards to match my seats. Had them sitting around for over a month. At the same time, I decided to add some leds ;) I've fitted a puddle light under both door mirrors which come on when I unlock the car and shine down onto the floor, lighting it up rather nicely :) Also fitted some red warning lights into the sides of the door cards. These also come on when a door is opened and gives a clear warning to cars going past :) I've fitted some blue LEDs to shine down on the door cards as well. These are switched live so wired up to the interior lighting circuit :) swapped over the interior courtesy light bulbs for some white led ones to modernise it a bit :) Whilst the door cards were off I thought I'd might as well swap the standard door speakers over for a spare set of Harman Kardon ones I've had sitting around for over a year and a half now. After reading that they didn't make much of a difference I never bothered fitting them, but wow I'm impressed. Sound quality is mega clear even up to high volumes. Massive improvement, really happy with them :) http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psvzwoeqjm.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psmwffavug.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...pssq9sr3oz.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...pswqekxlnk.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psomwxxcue.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psgqamfqwt.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psuqcy8wov.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2ryxoxjd.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2ryxoxjd.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...psu4e1ujuk.jpg http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/...pso0tpkft1.jpg |

i,ve just stripped the door card led,s out of my V6 and the mood lighting led strips, they were on constant and tucked in some odd places ( up behind the glove box and the dials) the previous owner said there was a problem with the battery draining.... i wonder why .i do like the red warning lights in your door cards..project for later me thinks

On any of my installs I wire them up either to the interior lights circuit so that they come on when the lights are switched on, or i wire them up to an ignition live slot on the fuse box if the owner wants the lights to come on whenever the engine is running :) The red door lights are not to hard to fit, just time consuming running power to the doors. It's a total nightmare getting wiring through to the doors though especially the front doors. |
Very nice Rick, the TF will be next for some extra lighting ;)

The TF has a long list of led changes which keeps building up. Custom dials, interior backlighting colour change, footwell lights, door card lights and now the red door card warning lights too! |
thats what i thought Rick, they,re out know anyhow, may add some back in at a later date plenty of other bits to do first. on other cars i,ve had the front doors were always worst for threading cables through..persistence always pays off and a few chosen words lol

Looks good, the lights in the mirrors add to the 'gentleman's carriage' image.
I have to say though, as my current car has these, that they don't really help when seeing where to put your size nines when getting out of the car, they light up the ground on the wrong side of the door, and (mine at least) don't light up when opening the door from inside. I'm looking to fit some in the bottom of either the door cards or the actual doors in order to act as proper 'puddle lights', being wired into the interior lights. |
