What Is The Average Mpg On A Mg Zt 2.5 V6

Having The Car For A Week I Noticed My Fuel Has Gone Down From Full Gauge To Half Way In Only 80 Miles Driven... Have I Got A Fuel Leak Or Is Because Its A Large Engine... Never Had A Big Engine Car Before Im New To All This

The Cars I Had Before Were
1. Astra Mk1 1.2
2. Peugeot 205 1.4
3. Rover 214 Si 1.4
4. Calibra 8v 2.0
5. Toyota Mr2 2.0 Gt
6. Ford Mondeo Ghia X 2.0
7. Peugeot 307s 1.4

Thanks

Should expect around 320 miles per tank on mixed driving (unless you have an ENORMOUS right foot)

Dave Goody 25th March 2009 20:15

Mine gets 24-28 normal running 32 ish on a long run. [I ignore the computer which says 34-35] Brim to Brim only accurate measurement. Dave

PS is yours a 160 or 190? put the info on your details on left

Nick999 25th March 2009 20:17

That works out about 33p per mile. Seems like you got a major fuel leak

Platemaker 25th March 2009 20:21

I always tend to notice that the gauge levels off for a while around 50% and then slowly go down to 25% and the last 25% goes down pretty quickly. They can be a bit thirsty sometimes but a great deal depends on your overall driving style.

In the Discovery it just goes down quickly and if I don't have my wallet on me I can't floor it:D

adam1978 25th March 2009 20:26

mine does 300 miles per tank

kyeleonardo 25th March 2009 20:28

I Do Tend To Put My Foot Down, I Cant Help It. I Love The Power Of This Thing, Any Chance I Get A Straight, The Foot Goes Down, Im Averaging 15 Miles A Day I See How It Goes When The Petrol Needle Is Low

Nick999 25th March 2009 20:30

I get about 340 miles to the tank - 17p per mile. Can live with that.

If you are only averaging 15 miles a day, I guess thats there and back? you are not even getting up to temperature so probably not far out. Running cold all the time maybe 14-16 mpg about right? Dave

adam1978 25th March 2009 21:27

This is true as you will be running on a rich fuel mixture i.e choke on both journeys!!! good excuse to go for a longer drive!!!:drool4:

adam1978 25th March 2009 21:28

or buy a punto!!! for 15 miles per day and use the beast at weekends!!

Greeners 26th March 2009 07:14

If you are doing 15 miles per day ( I'm assuming it's a combined and not a sinle jouney), you'll probably get 18 - 20 mpg. My jouney is 20 miles each way and I can get 25mpg very comfortably.

Hi Greeners, but he is booting it from cold! I reckon 15-18 mpg at best? Dave

The KV6 warms up in a mile or two, should be getting at least 25 mpg even on short trips. I would get car checked out on a T4.

That's it in a nutshell if you doing short journeys and like pressing the loud pedal then that's about right for the mpg.

When i first got mine i thought i had a serious fuel leak then realised someone had lined my boots with LEAD.

If your buy a V6 and have a heavy right foot and are concerned about mpg then sell it and buy the diesel model.

It isn't going to match your previous cars mpg no where near.

So just keep fueling her and enjoy to the max mate.

MIKE

Your economy will increase dramatically if you get a couple of speeding tickets.;)
If i take it easy i can get 100miles per section of my fuel gauge, round town 18mpg.
Just enjoy.

satty 26th March 2009 11:46

running it normally when the warning light comes on i get between 320 to 350 miles on a tankful

StevenWilliams 26th March 2009 16:57

I've been running with the fuel light on for the last week.
The trip still says I have 57 miles before I need to fill up.

It might have been something to do with an enjoyable drive last weekend where my right foot was very heavy. Not fast just 0-quick in a very short distance. Damn that loud pedal.

kyeleonardo 26th March 2009 20:22

thanks guys yeah you are all right, i do turn on my car and drive staright away, i mean whats the best thing to do,just let my car idle till the temperarature rises?

Not with a modern engine.

At the end of the day the car is burning fuel when idling. You may as well be going somewhere rather than burning fuel.

The engine will not be fully efficient for the first mile or so but it will reach it's best operational temp quicker if you are using the engine while it warms up.

adam1978 26th March 2009 21:04

but dont boot it cold as it does take time for the oil to work at its optimum temperature + reach the top of the engine!!!!

Lates 26th March 2009 21:06

My 190 only gets short runs most days, let it warm up before hitting the loud pedal. The trip computer is 19.7. Perks of hearing the engine note :D

adam1978 26th March 2009 21:09

when I got my zt a couple of weeks back my wife was driving it she was recording 10 mpg in her estimates!!!!
She must have gold boots!!!

Lates 26th March 2009 21:10

Crikey 10mpg !!! that takes some doing, I bet the V8 boys struggle to get that low.

adam1978 26th March 2009 21:13

we did come from a skoda octavia 2.0 35-40mpg
but she did panic me so I checked vis motors, changed oil and filters, tyre pressures and did an obd investigation.
We have done 300 miles on a tank of tesco juice. mixed driving - good or bad??
