2.5 manual cooling fan continuous

Hi guys,

A shout for help please.

Was out and about the other day, pulled up and switched off and the cooling fan was rubning. I thought nothing of it and headed off. Cars sometimes over run the cooling fan- but it wasn't a warm day?

I returned to the car about 20 minutes later and the fan was still running!

I was worried this would drain the battery and I removed the 80 amp fuse so as to not drain the battery.

Any ideas as to why the fan would stay on for so long? Coolant level checked and pretty normal.

A stuck-on relay by the sound of it. The fan has a permanent power supply even when the car's shut down. It's the earth circuit that's switched on by the relays in the control box and this makes the fan run.

Thanks very much!

Do you have a photo of said relay and where it is located?

You have to remove the front bumper to access the fan control box. This is much easier than it sounds and there are HowTos around here and a good video on YouTube. This shows a Mk2, but all models have the same fittings and removal method.

The fan relay box is attached behind the fan frame on the nearside. You'll find the relays in the box. They're standard, off the shelf items. There are lots of threads, photos and even HowTos on doing everything fan related.
