Battery light on
As above, my battery light has started to come on with the engine running. Attached the multimeter to the battery which looks fine running just over 14v and then around 12v with the engine off. Belt looks okay to me but I'm no expert haha. Is there a tell tale sign of the alternator failing?

Tell tale sign ?????---Yes, the battery light.---:duh:
If you don't let it arc up by running it around you might just get away with changing the brushes. Engine running 14.4 volts. Engine off 12.6 volts. |
If you have got over 14 volts at idle then the alternator sounds like it is doing what it should.
Could be a wiring fault - Chris had exactly the same problem here: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=203716 |

Thanks for the replies fellas. I've ordered a new regulator from dmgrs today. Hopefully get it tomorrow in the meantime I've removed the current one. I don't think it looks too bad, but what do I know!! http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/IMG_2003.jpg

Well the brushes have plenty of life left in them. Have you checked the wiring?

Thanks Mike, I checked the brown and yellow wire for chafing, but it all looked nice and secure. Battery terminals seemed secure enough. Not sure where else to look. There's not a lot of room to get in and have a look. I'm sure I've just read somewhere about a blown fuse bringing the charging light on. I'll check the fuses tomorrow. Fuse 36 on the earlier cars - I'm not sure about the later ones though.

Did the alternator slip rings on the armature look in good condition ?
Did those brushes you took out have free movement against the return springs ?? Make sure the wires connected to the alternator and battery have a good, clean, connection. |
