rover 75 v6 conn heater problem

hi in my v6 con 2.5 the heaters on the drivers side get red hot as normal but on the passenger its cold, its got the climate controll if that make a differance???

have this problem with mine.
as mine was going in to have some work done i spoke to the garage about it.
90% of the time the heater matrix has a blockage in it , apprantly which side it affects is totally random.

matrix will be blocked, feeds in and out drivers side so will be hot or at least warm on drivers side ,need to remove matrix and flush it out,not hard job just fiddley.

hi

is there a how to guide on this?? and ill have a pop see how it goes

Cymrudragon 3rd February 2010 13:25

There is a how to , you will have to search for it .

flush top hose first and the rad, then remove the matrix failing to flush first will leave unwanted deposits in the hose's and will end up blocking again.......ps DO NOT use radweld or other products as they block the matrix as well

could also be that one of the motors, or the operating flaps for directing the air have packed up. i believe there are 3 motors that operate the heater/flaps.

Ahem. Going out on limb here, but I would be surprised if this car has got two heaters. If you have warm air, the heater works. If you have warm air in only one side, you have a problem with the mixing of cold and warm. Stuck flap valve, stuffed electric motor or rad-weld in the head:D
But what do I know??:getmecoat:

Sorry to disapoint but the Directional flap motors are eather side of the foot well drivers/pass they can be heard working , by removing the 2 panels on opperating the heaters . some models Do have 2 heaters eg fbh.
there are 2 fans top and bottom the top can be tested by removing the pollen filter and look inside and you can see, as for the othere fan this is accessed through the pass foowell. if you have warm air from one side on a kv6 engine this usealy means a COLD spot in the matrix eather blocked by silt and other deposits , if the hg as gone at any point and addatives have been added, eg radweld to the coolent this can end up blocking as well . look for air lock first, if ok then flush the top matrix hose , then remove matrix and test for cold spot clean out with De-scaler .

So, see what you have made me do. I actually went and had a look.
:unlucky:
Firstly you have the inlet to the heater/cooling unit. One massive flap valve which either re-circulates or uses outside air.
Next comes the evaporator for the AC. After that, two flap valves, one each side, controlling the amount of air passing over the the heater element. This must be the temperature control, varying between all air after the A/C going through or all of it by-passing the heater or any amount in between.

If one side is cold and the other hot, it is likely that one of these flap valves is operational and the other stuck in the position bypassing the heater totally. They are driven by a small electric motor on each side. That would be my first port of call.

As for a local blockage, possible, anything is, but unlikely to be so area specific as to leave water through only one half of the heater thus full heat on one side of the radiator and total blockage on the other.

anything is possable, but how many have you removed and cleaned?

as i speak from experience on removing/replacing and unblocking, descaling ,and the amount of times this symptoms turn up regulaly on the forum same old posts warm one side cold the other NEARLY allways turn out to be a blockage. usualy after a hg change as i said ....oh and a air lock will show similar symtoms .
