Alternator Charge Fault
Hi Folks
Battery warning light came on late last week. Ordered up a new regulator and a second hand Alternator. Replaced the regulator Saturday afternoon and it seemed to work. Voltage was over 14 with engine running :}. Got lazy and went out to the chip shop Saturday evening,on the way back warning light reappeared. Now it,s not charging the battery again  I'm trying to avoid replacing the alternator. When idleing light comes on, i rev it and it goes out but still not charging.Any ideas |
Unfortunately you seem to have purchased a dud alternator.
Unless by chance you have a bad electrical connection somewhere .-- |
Hi Colvert
The new regulator was fitted to the old alternator without removing it. The secondhand hasn't arrived yet. Like i said only changing it as a last resort.New regulator worked for a couple of hours then gave up the ghost. |
OK. There are two ways to read your first post. Trust me to read it the wrong way. -:duh:
If the old unit is still in the car it's very important to make sure the two slip rings are in good condition. If they are bad and the armature wiring is coming adrift the fault could be there. |
