Made by Lucas for MGR, this harness has a BMW plug at one end for connecting in to the MGR loom, a set of standard ISO plugs for connecting into a Symphony (Alpine) head unit and a smaller set of three Mini-ISO plugs which also connect into the head unit. The blue one is for the CD changer, the yellow one is for the fitted telephone kit and the green one is for low-line navigation. At the far end of this harness is a single plug for connecting to a CD Changer in the glove box.

Sony CD Changer
 

Sony CD Changer, fitted with Harmony unit. "Connects2" lead adapter used to connect this to the Harmony head unit but I no longer have this lead.

(PS the part number for this is still needed. If it is found then I will amend this post to include it)

Did MGR supply the Sony stacker as an option?

It had OEM mounts in the glovebox and the wiring looked very OEM (all tied up and seured behind the console and under the glovebox).

I've always wondered myself though as I've never seen or heard of another Sony CD changer in a 75/ZT before.... :confused:

Perhaps mine was a dealer-fit rather than factory fit?

What's the 213014 written on the top for? I have a similar number, but didn;t think it was the security code as I was expecting 4 digits

On mine it is the last digits of the VIN number.

Rich - I've got the CD changer but no navigation unit and no telephone. Will the above harness VUL100330still be ok to convert the Harmony to a Symphony? - or should I use the much simpler one below?

The one you have a picture of there won't allow the use of steering wheel controls or speed related volume due to three missing pins/wires. If you can live with out those, it'll work fine.

The three missing cables are for steering wheel controls and telephone mute, easily added as Rich has said.

The speed related control and auto dimming of the display (when the sidelights are turned on) is via the K-Bus, which is wired through the green or blue mini ISO plug on the MGR loom, not so easy to retro fit.

Rich and Ray: The fleabay one (smalle pic) only has three multipin connectors whereas Rimmers' VUL100330 (main pic) has five. So I suspect the fleabay one won't:

a. Hook up to the CD changer
b. Hook up to Sat Nav
c. Hook up to steering wheel controls
d. Control telephone muting
e. Control auto speed/volume

Is all this correct? If so, it's not worth buying the fleabay one, better to get the proper VUL100330 instead.

Confirmed Simon, the one on ebay for a fiver is just a bmw <> iso adaptor providing the basic/standard ISO wiring.

If you don't need a cd player for the symph, it'll do fine provided you patch in the extra three wires yourself.

Cheaper that the £45+ VUL one from Rimmer ;)

Rich - I'm not too keen on buying the cheap fleabay one without knowing which wires need to be added and exactly where they're supposed to go.

As an alternative to spending £40-ish at Rimmers, perhaps I could get a VUL100330 from a breaker on fleabay. Do you know if VUL100330 is present on all cars that had Symphony as standard equipment?

It would have to be, yes.

Good thinking Batman, I bet no one has ever been to a rover breakers for a bit of ICE wiring before :)

If you do get the fleabay one, the three missing pins just need connecting from one plug to the corresponding position in the other.

The harness from a car that had a Symphony fitted should be OK, as far as I know, all cars that had it fitted had an overlay harness that connected to the 17 pin BMW plug.

The only difference between that and the MGR aftermarket lead is that the aftermarket lead has the plugs for the fitted telephone and navigation system on it (the two on the part of the loom with a grey label on in the picture) which saves having to stock the various combinations, whereas the factory would fit the relevant lead without unecessary plugs.

Just make sure it has the three mini ISO's and the CD changer plug (in case it isn't an MGR one).

Fitting Symphony to a Sony CD Changer
 

I am installing a Symphony radio which has a 10 pin fly lead from the radio for the cd unit.

The Sony CD Changer which has a red and white connectors also a 3 pin female connector.

These Sony connectors in turn used to connect to a 6 pin adaptor which then connected to the old Harmony radio.

Is their a convertor connector which will let me connect the Symphony to a Sony CD changer.:bowdown:

Yes the Connects2 box.
This was fitted as standard on many Tourers. The T69 Sony multi-disk player.

Looking at the back of this unit it looks like one could just play with the rear connections (adding the additional blanked socket) and use it in the boot of a HighLine vehicle - save paying £200!

Am I right?

Has any one got the dreaded missing cable/loom to connect the symphony radio to the CD
