I have to say, looking at these figures the situation isn't as bad as I feared - can anyone confirm these figures are correct????

Looks right to me. My 1.8 petrol falls into the new 'J' category. Scary.

davediamond 20th April 2008 18:18

That information matches the table given in the full budget report.

The 2009/10 is valid from 13th March 2009

The 2010/11 is valid from 13th March 2010

Well, I'm confused, for sure... the information doesn't match what Parkers are showing...

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/?deriv=21114

The above is the quote for my tourer, showing £210 for this year (08/09), which I have literally just paid (as of 15th March, to run from 01/Apr/08).

According to the sequence at the top of this thread, if I'm paying £210 now, then I'm in the Band F (186–225g/km) category... and thus in 2010/11 paying a maximum of £310 in Band K for the same emissions-levels (assuming a max of 225g/km taken from the top limit of that previous Band F range).

However, although Parkers also shows me in Band F now (£210) as expected... I'm in Band L in 2010/11, not K, and coughing up £430!

They can't BOTH be right, and I've seen other, quite well-informed sites linking to Parkers... so I am now officially worried. And confused! :)

Got my renewal form here right next to me. Due by the end of the month & it's £180 per year or £99 for 6 months. Pre march 2001 2.0V6. I will pay it - mañana (maybe) :)

GreyGhost 20th April 2008 22:42

Mine also runs out the end of this month and I have just renewed, just 6 months and then buy a year in October, should save a few quid.

Mine is 259g/km and cost £210 year or £115.50 6 months which makes nonsense of the quoted figures above.

Your 2002 75 2ltr V6 club shows on Wisebuyers as emmiting 228g/km which currently puts you in band F for vehicles over 186g/km registered before 23rd March 2006, so £210 is correct for 12 months.

From 13th March 2009 the new graduated VED scale will put your emission of 228g/km in band L for vehicles between 226-255g/km therefore your VED will be the same as a ZT 190 at £415 (12 months) and from 13th March 2010 at £430 (12 months)

This is all subject to the Wisebuyers guide being correct in relation to your C02 emissions (see below)

You sure, Dave? According to the motortorque list at the top of this thread, there's a higher Band G for cars over 225g/km - and so surely I should be in that band right now, if I'm at 228g/km.... yet I am not. I paid £210... implying I'm 225g/km or less in the eyes of the gu'mmint. This is what's confusing me...

All agreed - but I'm still confused... If Wisebuyers (and Parkers) is correct, and I'm over 225g/km, then I'd expect to get lumbered at the four-hundred end of this mallet-to-the-wallet... but this motortorque news seems to holding out a tease, and maybe I'm only gonna get stung for three hundred or so... or else, I'd be paying FOUR hundred right now, surely?

Or is the current Band G JUST for vehicles newer than Mar '06? (which might explain the inconsistencies I'm seeing).

And if so, is this 'age threshold' (and the 2001 one too) going to roll forward as we progress over the years, and have the older cars fall out of the higher-end of the system (which would be fairer, imho, given the infeasibly stupid tax-to-value ratios that would accrue, otherwise).

Spitting feathers, me... that Darling 'fellow' needs stringing up, imho...

Yes you are correct. The current band G (valid until 13th March 09) is for cars over 226g/km registered on or after 23rd March 2006 only so your 2002 75 comes under band F as it was registered prior to this date. Interestingly, your car could emit 1000g/km and it would still only cost you £210 until 2009

Who knows the answer to this one

I'm not to happy myself BUT at least my 52 plate 2.5 V6 160 falls just under the top 2 bands at 225g/km, if I had a 2ltr V6 I would be well cheesed off at having to pay the same as the ZT190.

Just to summerise, the figures I quoted in my first post are correct for your future VED. (you may as well get yourself a nice 2.5 V6 75 or better still a ZT190.)

As much as I'd like to find a lamp post and hang Darling from it, (my VED goes up to £270 in 2010 for a measly 1.8), I guess all you can do is pay it and reconcile yourself by putting it in perspective with other motoring costs.

After all, a £ 100 increase in VED equates to £1.92 a week, against servicing, insurance and, biggest of all, fuel; its hardly a big expense in the scheme of running a vehicle.

it's just a pain having to find it all in one go.
