Base model radio removal
Hi
I've got a 75CDT Classic. Recently fitted a new UB pump and now of course the damn radio wont work since it needs a 4 digit code. There are web sites that can provide the code but need the radios seriel number that is stamped on the chassis. So how do I remove the radio?? :bowdown: The haynes manuel talks about "special tools" to unlock the cage locks in order to slide the unit out. Can anyone help? |
Radio Codes
Hi
I'm sure you've had this before. I recently disconnected the battery and now the damned radio needs a 4 digit code to operate it. A search on the web gives sites that can calculate it for you (free) but you need the units serial number - so you have to remove it to find the serial number. So how do you remove the blaupunkt unit from a classic?? The haynes manuel talks ominously of "special tools" Can anyone help |
This page from the Rover manual shows how to remove the radio.
You will have a fascia that holds the radio instead of the Harmony but the principal is more or less the same. Remove the cover under "eyebrow" then the two screws, then pull the fascia forward and unplug the radio. You will not need the removal tools shown in no.4 just tilting the facia and radio forward will allow you to remove it. Then you can remove the radio from the fascia pushing in two clips on each side of the radio.. http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l4...dioHarmony.jpg This shows the radio and fascia. http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l4...her/Plugs1.jpg Dave T |
Well it was easy
Update
Well it was easy. I was a bit nervous but took a screwdriver to it and just prised it out. Cant think what special tools are needed. So I now have the seriel number, now all I need is the damned code. Just downloaded some software but it was full of trojens thanks to my trusty kaspersky. |
Thanks
Hi Dave
Thanks for the reply. I have a classic and its fitted with a blaupunkt unit (CD32). I was a bit nervous of breaking something but I found I could just prise it out with a screwdriver. I now have the units serial number and need to find its code - they are preprogrammed at the factory. I just downloaded some software but I got an urgent warning off Kaspersky that it contained trojens and other nasties! So continue searching. |

There are actually 2 very small slots which allow you to put the special tools through to unlatch the springy clips at the bottom, I ground down a couple of jigsaw blades to make some. But as you say, they will just pull out without a tool if you are brave enough. |

Update
:}
Well I may just have finally got my code. It was simple really. Didn't need to remove the unit or mess around with seriel numbers etc. I simply looked in the owners handbook for the original supplying dealer, a company in Leeds, and called them up. I was put through to the parts department, they asked for the reg number, and they had a record of the radio code. Simple! :pillow: Hope this helps others in the same predicament. Course I have to wait an hour now with the ignition switched on so that I can enter the code. |
