How many zts left

www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?page=1&q=Mg+zt According to how manyleft.co.uk, mg zt range are falling fast like most cars this age. Only 600 ish v6 190s left according to this site if I read it correct. I sold rovers and mg from new back in the day and they are slowly vanishing....

oswestryalex 20th March 2017 10:09

a fading star?

Hi,
yes according to the site in Q3 (July to September) 2016 there were 296 cars of the MG ZT 190 type on the road and 77 SORNd. Mine was one of the latter at that time, but pleased to say it is taxed and hopefully MOTd soon (when the part can be found that needs replacing). We are now looking at some fairly rare cars - and as they get scrapped, they will become even rarer.
Not sure what anyone else thinks, but the MG ZT 190 that I have puts a smile on my face when I drive it and has that elusive quality - 'class'.:} Alex

jr.ewing* 20th March 2017 11:04

I agree, great cars. The numbers will fall fast as they are worth more in parts, you can get a good 190 example for 1k at the moment still, the cdtis once had a premium price but now do not. Seems to me that the general public are not keen on the 75 or zt.

Simondi 20th March 2017 12:54

I suspect that soon the numbers will bottom out and then remain pretty constant

I see that the 190 se is down to 89 registered.

I still have two! I promise to look after them! :}

Mickyboy 20th March 2017 15:05

Numbers are dropping fast, once the "drive them till they die" people finish with them prices will rise

vacuman 20th March 2017 18:21

Things tend to turn the corner at 20. When was the last time you saw a Mondeo or Escort pre '97 reg?

No surprise but the best place to see cars over 20yrs old in regular use is your local supermarket car park. Even my 83yr old mum is still driving her one-owner, 55k '97 Honda Civic. She did 800 miles between the last two MOTs, almost all back and forth to the shops.

But with so few of any marque left after 20yrs old there's usually someone out there who will want to save it (if it's a good one) yet five years early the same car would have been happily dispatched to the crusher without a 2nd thought.

e668ecp 20th March 2017 18:26

My dad's ZT V8 260SE is currently SORNed and the MOT has run out but it will be back on the road come the 1st of May :)

Its been regularly started etc and run up / down the drive.

Dallas 20th March 2017 18:38

How many of these ZT's left that are untouched from the boy-racer mods?

I have two ZT+190's that are both standard original, except one having a DD stereo, but I still have the original to put back in at any time.

Mods do have there price, increases your insurance, or make it void if not declared, plus devalue the car at a later stage.

deltic08 20th March 2017 18:40

Only one on road over winter, 5 on SORN, 2 complete donors also on SORN that could be roadworthy with a little work. All 190 SEs except 2. Could be 3 donors if I can't find a way of getting one started after battery went flat (no, I have recharged battery but still no life in starting cycle but all other electrics work). That will distort figures if others have done the same.
What are the numbers for 75s?

jr.ewing* 20th March 2017 18:41

I don't think many boy racers mod these cars, they are just not into them, and def not 75s.

Lol, you obviously dont read much on here then, some members just cant leave their car alone. They may not be boy-racers, but I reckon some come close and fit the bill quite nicely, naming no names of course. :D

jr.ewing* 20th March 2017 19:13

I've not been on here that long... I personally think any dealer or monogram upgrades you do yourself are all good. Chrome and walnut the 75 to the max, dealer upgrades on zt also all good.

Nice user-name by the way... :D

I am hopeful that we see these classy and great cars gain the respect they deserve - the 20 year rule sounds about right. I heard local to me some young guy in the village had a R75 and wanted to change and sold it for £49! I wish I had had a chance to look at it, even as a donor....
I do believe we shall be having the last laugh, as it were - and maintain these great motors. Yes, modding them is baffling.... I colour coordinate with carpets and so on, but leave engine etc well alone. :-))

Hi Wes - for me it's the obvious quality compared to a eurobox. A car that gives me a grin when driving deserves to be kept - so I keep mine and enjoy "tinkering" with it.

I have mentioned before that I see similarities to what happened in the 1960's with British motorcycles - the firms went bust and everyone dumped their British bikes for Japanese ones. Me included.

But By heck I wish I had kept my Tiger90, T100Daytona, Viper and the various Nortons I had. Not sure about the Matchless 650 tho - that was the most unreliable pile of p00 I have ever owned.

jonc3725 20th March 2017 20:43

Still have a very early 190+ and spent hundred of hours and hundreds ney probably over a £1K restoring it so far :duh: many dealership upgrades fitted from the original fit:D plus a few not so dealership mods:D. Its a keeper to be honest but will be used regularly once MOTed.

There are a few owned by enthusiasts now who will keep them going. A lot more than a 51 Mondeo or Vectra:D:D:getmecoat:

spongeh 20th March 2017 20:50

One of the 47 MG ZT + SPORTS 180 AUTOs .... I think there's plenty of life left in this old girl yet :D

In have to admit they are both very good looking zt's. Took mine out for a spin today, great feeling and lots of road presence, they look the business and are getting better with age I think

I've removed my (witty) reply as it's taking the post off thread..
It's about how many are left not about modding cars
Cheers Ian

That is an absolute beauty.

You're a lucky man :)

jr.ewing* 21st March 2017 06:31

Look after zt and it could be worth a few grand in 10 years but its not an investment as it needs money spent on it during those years and it won't be worth mega money like some fords. I bought a 89 BMW 325i sport in early 00s for 1k, try getting one now for less than 10k, my pal sold his astra GTE for 9k and his 205 gti for 6k, wish I kept mine. At least the zt is pretty much depreciation free

Gary, nowt wrong with that, yours does look nice. :} I myself was a complete boy-racer in my day, I still have that itch when I see a 6th Gen Celica. :D

I think for any of our cars to appreciate in value with so few left need to be kept original as possible, its the same scenario when it comes to selling. All those little personalised mods ones does can pose a potential problem and alienate a lot of buyers, I suppose it all depends what mods we are talking about, its a slippery slope.

oswestryalex 21st March 2017 11:07

can't wait to get mine back roadworthy

Those pics look great - mine needs some more work, sadly, but once that MOT is done, the part arrives and is fitted, I shall be very glad to get out once more into the Welsh borders and those nice winding lanes in the hills.... like dying and going to heaven... :-)

Beena wild 21st March 2017 12:43

The ZT 190 is a rare beast over this side of the pond. Probably something to do with the annual €1080 road tax cost. This is a particular pain to endure but I still want to drive this great car and people say i'm mad.

I have the MOT equivalent coming up later today (retest due to no airbag light, €20 job and holed back box €140).

Having never abused the car or driven it with menace I still like to solid feeling, the sporty sound, the good looks and the virtual uniqueness of the beast over here.

Fingers crossed for another year on the road at least.

Just passed the test - Hard to keep a good thing off the road!

Arryhall 21st March 2017 17:48

For some years now I have always wanted an MG ZT. According to other opinions, the MGZS was the better car to drive, but there is just something so purposeful and handsome about that ZT. I'll confess to knowing 1.8. 1.8T, 2l, 2l diesel, 2.5 V6 engine configurations, and that's it! What the numbers mean and what they break down into is something I'm only now just discovering. Same with the 75, I knew the engine variations to a small degree, but as for fit and finish with the Club, Connouseueur, and...er...no, that's it. That's all I knew. Leather seats or cloth.
But the look of the MG, especially in that delicious blue, still makes me look twice. I personally can't think of too many cars that have the same presence, sense of style and class and yet retain a meanness and sense of purpose as the MGZT. Most other cars look, to me, like something escaping a Manga comic (Honda Civic Trpe R?) or just dull (anything with Kia on it).

My Honda was dying, its' tax and MOT were due and I needed another car. The local garage had this 1.8t 75 connie in for under £1000. And I kept looking at it, then the Mondeo he had in, the 75, then other garages, then the 75... and I thought 'WHY do I keep looking when I always come back to this 75?'. So I brought it. And it has leaky problems, and a turbo issue, and the stereo is rubbish and sounds awful, and it smells a bit from the stagnant swimming pool under the seats, and the headlights are scratched and need refurbishing, and the drinks holders are pants. But it is awesome and I love it!!!! I've sorted the leaks, which I enjoyed doing, I'm fitting a Parrot until I get a touch screen stereo thing off Sean, I'm going to shampoo the carpets now it's drying out, I'm going to refurb the lights and it's just nice to drive. It's also a classy looking car in a nice silver.

BUT....if I could have found one, at a similar price, I'd LOVE an MGZT in that amazing blue, with a 75 interior (wood dash and trim) and the white leather and wood steering wheel, with the v6 engine converted to LPG so I didn't feel bad about the environment when I put me foot down, with the serpent wheels I have on my 75. Not sure if I'd go for the facelift model though. Them 2 separate lights look gorgeous, but then the one unit lights look great too. I like the deeper intercooler aspect of the later models though.

I've no idea what these cars are / if they exist, but if I had the money, I doubt there are many other cars I'd have over that. money no object, I'm not sure if I'd pass up on one of them.

Maybe I'm just odd, but the 75 and ZT are stunning designs that manage to look inherently English.

spongeh 21st March 2017 18:46

I love the exterior of my Trophy Blue ZT :D

But I also love the interior, I know some people have said that original is better, but I couldn't stand the plastic looking technical grey dashboard so I swapped it out with a real walnut PPD dash and steering wheel, PPD illumiated sun visors and a Navall Star Radio :D

They're only minor tweaks, but they do make it a lot more pleasant place to spend a few hours.

Absolutely mate that was the plan.:D:D

Nothing wrong with Japanese sports cars. you know my thoughts on the Toyotas. A good gen 6 GT4 or a Gen 5 Carlos Sainz are superb cars. My Supra is a becoming a very rare beast but I still drive her every day:D
