Tyre size question

the tyres on my 02 cdt tourer are 195x65x15 would it be ok to change them for 205x65x15 thanks in advance

Hello George,
Personally, I wouldn't.

There are MGR specificationss for wheel rims and the tyres that should be fitted on them, so moving outside these combinations would likely invalidate any insurance claim you may have later on. Here's the 1999 Handbook'a info on sizes.

The 205/65-15s will certainly fit the existing rims, but will have an impact the speedo accuracy. The tyres could eventually suffer circumpherential cracking around the tread (been there-did that myself in the '60s !).

I've fitted 225/55/16's to my Unions. Not the factory spec' & they have had an impact on the speedo in that they've caused it to give a more accurate reading than on the 215's. I wouldn't go back as the ride is noticeably more relaxed. So it's not always a bad thing.

So ,you’re not just replacing the tyres, but the wheels as well?

Are the replacement wheel rims 6” or 6.5”?

Early cars were fitted with 205/65/15 then when production moved in 2001 they were changed to 195/65/15
