Using VPN ??
Is it possible to make and run a VPN yourself or would a person need to use one of the many that`s advertised on the WWW with a Monthly fee?
I have looked up quite a fair amount about VPN`s but they were mainly how to set up your router and still need a third party server? Does your speed suffer using a VPN too ? Ken. |
The Opera Browser gives you a free VPN. It wouldn't let me change fonts on the forum though (neither would any browser) so I'm back to Firefox.

It is possible to setup your own VPN server, but its quite involved. As you'd have to have it in your home for it to be "free", there'd be no value in bothering. (Unless you wanted to watch iPlayer from abroad for example)
Operating via a VPN will slow your speeds as data has to go via the VPN server. |

All having a VPN does is anonymise your traffic out on the internet. While it is secure and encrypted in the VPN tunnel, unless its sent over HTTPS, it will be in plaintext out in the internet.
With the rise of HTTPS, a little vigilance will save you from potential "man in the middle attacks" (e.g. cloning bank details). VPN won't protect you from nasties picked up via website drive-bys. For now, all a VPN really does is make it harder for your ISP/the government/the NSA etc etc to snoop in on what you're doing on the internet. |
