Jaguar XF problems ugh!
 

With a 30 year old Rover SD1 Vitesse and a 14 year old 75 Connoisseur sitting rust free and with fully working electric windows, think of this !

Just months out of the paint/corrosion warranty our XF developed a small area of blisters on the drivers door. Just under a year later blisters had appeared at exactly the same spot on the passengers front door.

The blisters, approx 20 of varying sizes take up an area of approx 18" x 8" on the centre of the door panel. My son reckoned this was due to paint contamination but after today I have other thoughts.

Last week the drivers window failed completely and I had to play around with it to get it to jam at the almost closed position.
Today I removed the door card and found that the Bowden cable mechanism had corroded right through so the entire mechanism complete with motor has to be replaced.
When I was inside the door I was shocked to see that there was rust spots all around and within the sound deadening pad stuck to the inside of the door.
The paint blisters coincide exactly in the same area so now I will have to remove the pads and see what lies beneath and what repairs can be done.

Your experience with this jag doesn't sound like a good one. You would think a brand like jaguar which aren't cheap to buy either would be better made. I hope you get it sorted. Typical, these things happen after the warrantee ends.

Sorry to hear that. How about an aluminum XJ next? Or an Audi A8? My aluminium Audi has absolutely no problems like the ones you mention and Alison has 190,600 miles and 14 years on the road!

Interesting to read this, considering the corrosion problems being experienced nowadays on the X-Type (and S-Type, I believe ?). I for one, would certainly expect a car like the XF to be rust free for at least a decade and probably longer.

Without wishing to rub salt in the wound (sorry :getmecoat:), it does go to show just how well the 75's & ZT's were built. Other than the rear sill, which seems to become an issue around 10-15 years, they appear to be very good for corrosion durability.

Our 75 diesel purchased new had to go back for one item under warranty. This was to get the rear lower seat replaced as there was bad stains in the leather.

Apart from a shocking main dealer service at 24k after which I serviced it myself up to when we sold it with 117k. (From memory) the car gave little trouble other than the usual brakes tyres and of course the springs.
Even at that mileage the paintwork was pretty good and there was no corrosion like I'm experiencing with the Jag.

I've still to inspect the remaining doors which I will be doing soon.

You have certainly been unlucky with that Jag Jim. More than likely if you contacted Jaguar Direct they wouldn't be interested. Not what you would expect from a luxury expensive car like Jaguar.

Not good news Jim, and thank you for posting this. Only last night I was trawling though the XFs on autotrader (and not fr the first time recently) and seriously considering the 2.7 and 3.0 as an alternative to a 160 remap and spruce up of my 75.

I hope you get it sorted some how and that the localised rust is just that, localised.

Have you had many problems with the XF?

Good morning Jim, that looks like surface rust which can happen if the door or window rubbers are corroded or came out. I expect you have checked the seals? I had a similar problem on my 4x4. Now rectified.
