Help with a Tourer search!

Hello everyone :}

I'm new to the forum and looking for a 75 Tourer. I have my heart set on a Connoisseur, and of course with as many extra features as possible! I'd prefer an auto for comfort and a diesel would be best for cost, but I'm not dead set on either one. Cream leather and curtain airbags would be huge pluses, but again not deal-breakers.

I'm really not savvy when it comes to cars. Hopefully I can take a hands-on approach to learning, but it'd be great to get a point in the right direction from someone here. I'd love to get one from a member, but perhaps someone's seen something else online that's worth investigating? I'm happy to travel anywhere for the privilege - although I'll only be relying on the forum buyer's guide once I'm there. :)

Time-frame: As soon as possible. Budget: If at all possible under £1k, but I realise I may need to compromise on the auto/diesel for this to happen.

Any help would be VERY much appreciated!

All the best,
Ashley

If it helps (and is allowed!), here are my current candidates from online:

Ebay 2003, 188,000 miles (diesel auto): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-03-re...item35d2ae9443

Not sure if the miles are too much here?

Autotrader 2004, 160,000 miles (diesel auto): http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...over?logcode=p

Any ideas on how wise I'd be to buy something that's 'unknown'? I'd prefer to buy from a member as I say, but there doesn't seem to be anything suitable available at the moment. If I were to visit one of the dealers above, and ideas on what price I should be aiming at for negotiation?

Sorry for the flood of questions! I'm really taken with the model and can't wait to start motoring in one! :)

Just to update: It wouldn't absolutely have to be a Tourer if a spectacular saloon deal came along.

I need to move my big, soft German Shepherd around a lot, but she'd probably survive on the top of folded down saloon seats. Just incase anyone's seen/knows of anything that's going at present...

Thank you!!

Might want to look at this one!

Messenger was selling a 2002 Conn SE Tourer auto diesel with about 120k around Christmas for about £1,200 IIRC then took it off the market, might be worthwhile contacting him ( see the Members tab above ) it had all the extras plus more.

If I were you I would stick to a tourer. Folding the seats down In a saloon will leave the boot exposed and if your precious cargo ventures in there it will be uncomfortable. Also you would not be able to go anywhere with more than 1 passenger and your pooch.
I have 2 dogs and a tourer. The boot size is ideal.

Thank you all so much for your help!

babrat61: I hadn't seen this one before! It looks perfect, but with the reserve I fear that it might go past my price range. I'll certainly keep an eye on it.

Johnocyprus: That's a brilliant tip, thank you. I've sent him a PM. It'd be absolutely fantastic to buy from a member, and that spec sounds like a dream.

Mikeal1: That's great to know. I wasn't sure if the saloon was an option, so thanks for clearing it up. My dog's quite big, so the Tourer does seem like a better choice - and there might even be room for a new friend for her at some point in the future. ;) Do you use crates for your dogs when they travel? How about a grate? Do you know if compatible grates are easy to find?

Thanks everyone once again. I can't wait to become a part of such a friendly community.

Oh, one final thing: Does anyone know how I can give official 'Thanks' to members? :)

All the best,
Ashley

mileage is getting on but looks to be nice and just under your budget, but as with all cars go take a look before committing unless you know the seller or maybe buying from the club member.

facelift if you could add a few more pounds to the budget, or even try knocking them down
