The bleed screw on the bottom coolant hose of my 2.5 KV6 is weeping coolant and I don't want to risk tightening the existing screw any further in case the head shears off.
I have a replacement bleed screw and presume that if I keep the cooling system sealed whilst replacing the screw there will be minimal loss of coolant, I plan on replacing the screw as follows:
- Allow the cooling system to fully cool
- Remove the expansion cap to release any residual pressure in the system
- Replace the expansion tank cap
- Remove the bleed screw and clean the mating face on the threaded boss on the hose
- Fit the new screw and tighten sufficient to seal
By replacing the expansion tank cap this should hold a vacuum on the system to minimise loss of coolant.
Hopefully the threads in the boss on the hose will be OK!
