I do a car share with a work colleague, he drives for the first shift, then I drive the second shift. He drives a 15 reg Dacia equipped with the trusty Renault 1.5 Dci engine found in Mercedes, Nissans to mention a few. This engine is quite well refined now and as pointed out it's used in a variety of vehicles as a torquey and compact unit which can if driven right and in good state of tune returns good mpg. The Dacia got treated to a veg and fossil fuel mixture 2 weeks ago. There was nothing different in terms of performance, mpg or starting. Not saying that it will be ok for long term use, but initially quite encouraging results. My car being a petrol, it will keep with the usual juice !
For me, I would not conside running purely on veg, but a 50/50 would be considered fairly safe bet.
