It's now a matter of identifying the source of the debris. Is it fine brake band wear or coarse fragments?
Have a look at the high clutch which only comes into use for 3rd gear selection. It's labelled as "reverse and high clutch assembly" which I understand you already have on the bench. Do you have the exploded diagram?
