Changed the automatic transmission fluid following beinet1's very good guide:

The only thing I did differently was use diagnostic software to monitor the fluid temperature. It took longer than I expected to reach 35°C, about 15 minutes I think.

The old fluid that came out was a dark grey / brown, I don't think it had ever been changed in the car's 79000 miles / 23 years. The gear changes are so much smoother now!

I also changed the lower engine mount as the rubber had split. Getting the bolt out/in that lines up with the oxygen sensor was "fun". Fortunately the forum was there yet again to provide the advice needed:

We also changed the power steering fluid on my wife's Rover 25.
