I do not know how good any pubs or cafe are out that way although I have been to the Ramside Hall which is good as they have a huge car park. I know of the Duke of York in Fir Tree (look okay from outside), as I go past it on way to daughter's place in Leadgate..... will have a scout about whilst on my travels!
