To do all of the valves, normally takes me around two hours at a leisurely pace John, and fortunately in terms of refitting the head to the block, the engine is out of the car on this particular job and mounted on an engine stand

You couldn't make this one up though, when the head came off, the previous attempt failed at the job by the "specialist" who didn't diagnose the cause of the HGF.....a knackered water pump..... was compounded by something I've never encountered in all of the years I've worked on K series engines.

The dowels, yes there were two of them, so no problem there nope one was plastic and the other steel

On the plus side all of the liners are level, with a protrusion of a smidge under three thou from the joint face, so ripe to have fitted my very last LVB000230 gasket

The sad part of it, this was obviously a well looked after low mileage example of an MGF, laid waste by poor workmanship.
