Without wishing to offend you or your friend/mechanic, few people go to the considerable trouble of using a torque wrench on the inlet manifold gaskets; it's very slow and fiddly and you need heaps of patience. Main dealers cannot afford to because the customer won't pay extra for it.

I would say not. Much more likely to be those inlet manifold gaskets. The KV6 head gaskets are MLS and will only fail if the engine is seriously abused. For example, another club member's V6 had a thermostat which did not open. The coolant temperature rose rapidly to absurdly high temperatures on several occasions whilst the owner worked out the cause. Neither head gasket failed.
