That is true - I remember seeing someone post the shelf life of belts recently and IIRC it was 10 years and 6 in service. what I'm not sure of is is a 9 year old belt got 1 year in service life or 6, considering that it only has 1 more year life on the shelf and being in an engine is a lot harder on it? Partly why I always think that the best thing to do is to carry out a belt inspection at annual service - including an assessment for damage, wear, and stretch.
