It was designed by the devil.....

There is a spring hook fastened to the underside of each side of the seat base. The hook catches on a hooked bracked fixed on the car. You need something about 18" long with a forked end. Lift one side and using your forked implement, unhook the spring. Repeat at the other side, then it should just lift out. Refitting involves using the same implement to try to get the hook back on the bracket.
