M8 which needs a 13mm long socket. If it has been wound all the way down, a long socket may not have the reach - in which case shape a bit of tube to fit.
The thread on the cable end, is harder than the nut, so if it has been overtighted the nut's thread strips making it impossible to remove. In which case - drill down the side of the nut with a 2mm drill bit to free it.
