I tried to buy a replacement expander, but they were on back order autumn last year.

I can't see the adjuster needing replacement as they can be adjusted to take up any wear.

I'd do the discs / drums as someone else suggested. Both my cars were bad when I came to them.

I think a lot of the problem comes down to the cables. Not the inner stretching, but the outer compressing. I replaced discs and shoes on my low mileage tourer and the handbrake performance is still rubbish in spite of correct adjustment and new parts. I will be trying something to fix this in the summer and will report back if it works.
