Default 'Pulse' at steering wheel ?

Our Rover 75 CDTI had decided to develop a 'pulse' on the steering in that it rocks , hands off, from side to side all by itself . It also has developed a pull to the left which tracking hasn't sorted.

I've had a rummage about underneath this morning nad there seems to be some play /clonking in the rack arms at the rack end. Is this the likley cause or is there some other well known issue ?

Mileage is only just over 80k.

Steering wheels all suffer from vibrations on the diesel, check your rear arm bushes for wear, these are a common cause of steering woes.

Thanks Trikey but this isn't a vibe as you can actually see the steering wheel twitching from one side to the other if you take your hands of it ,moves by about 25mm.

I'll get the rear bushes checked though

I'm having the same issue on blue thunder ( ZT190 ).

There are times when the car feels wobbly and pulls to the left a fair bit. If I hold the steering loosley ( say between thumb and forefinger looped over the wheel ) it twitches as I am driving down the road and if the road surface gets poor then it can be a nightmare to control.

Could mine be bushes as well?

It could be a variety of things from uneven tyre pressure (this could cause a slight pull) to the bushes failing, or maybe wheels our out of alignment does it drivd straight when the steering is held straight?

Sounds like your steering is out of alignment, if you get a 4 wheel alignment done I am sure you will notice a huge improvement, but ask them to check for play in the steering components as worn bushes may have contributed

You also have to bear in mind, that if the tyres have worn because the car has been run with the tracking out, simply correcting the tracking, won't make any difference to the way that the car pulls to the left, as the tyres are still worn incorrectly!

Have you tried swopping the front wheels from side to side?

Was the tracking done a 4 wheel alignment? Apparently this is the only way to get it aligned properly, as for the play I wpuld imagine it contributed, if not the sole cause
