Default crazy insurance quotes.looks like the the end for me and my old girl

there is something very sadly wrong with life when a guy can't afford to insure an 11 yr old deisel connie saloon.
im'e 50,clean licence,full n/c/b. car is garaged, valued £600,limited miles 5,000,vol excess £500.
best quote so far is co-op £527 f/comp with claims protection, £473 without protection.
just over 18 month ago same car valued £1800,limited miles 7,000,vol excess £350, cost me wih rac £265.
i will spend a few more days searching for better quotes but at the moment it is not looking very good.

please all keep your fingers crossed, for if i don't find something affordable i will be giving up driving for good.
pete.

My insurance is dure this month and I have just been on line and have been quoted £260 fully comp., protected no claims, breakdown including recovery in the UK with business insurance included as standard with Direct Line. I have been with Zurich for the past 8 years and they wanted £335 for the same cover. Give them a try, by the way I am 62 years old.

Peter,

A couple of things to bear in mind. It's not worth paying extra for a comprehensive policy on a car worth £600 or less (insurance companies use dealer trade-in value). This is because bodyshop repair costs will exceed that even for the smallest scuff to your bumper, so your insurer will write the car off. You then have to buy it back by paying the salvage value plus you have the cost of the repair to bear, and all on top of a comprehensive premium which did nothing for you.

Secondly, so-called 'claims protection' is now not worth having either. Insurance companies have taken to raising the renewal premium by an enormous amount following a claim, so you're paying for 'protection' which you don't get.

Simon.

Quite often I have found fully comp is cheaper than TPF&T.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Regardless of driving record, alot of insurance companies hike the premium up because of the area you live in,ie postcode, the nearer you are to a city ,or large town, the higher the premium,in my experience.
When I was in my mid 20's ,I moved to a country cottage, the insurance went down, when I got married a few years later ,and moved to my current address, the insurance rocketed. I seem to remember there being a thread about insurance and the club on here recently. Was it that the club was trying to negotiate with insurance companies about discounted premiums for club members?
