Cold heaters... please help :(
Ok so ive been looking through the forums for a while and this is my 1st post
recently bought a 2005 ZT 190 with 64k and full service history only problem is.... the heaters are cold :S got told this could be a problem with the heater matrix so i took it out, cleaned it thoroughly until it was getting hot all over and put it back in still cold..... thought it may be an airlock so continued to bleed system through and still nothing.... until....whilst engine was running i undid the cap to see how much pressure was in the system and low and behold... HEAT! But when u tighten the cap back on it goes cool again, i am completely stumped... also just tried the ATC diagnostics check and came up with no fault codes any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Nick Last edited by Nickc10; 25th January 2012 at 17:37.. |

Nick,
When you bled the cooling system did you raise the expansion tank as high as possible? When you released the expansion tank cap, was there sign of pressurisation? Simon.

Could be the thermostat failed in the open position.
Where does the needle on the temperature gauge in the car run at ? Should be the 9 o'clock position. |

No, both should be hot. Seems it could be an airlock preventing flow.

KV6 cooling system only
I'd suggest that you bleed the cooling system again but with the expansion tank raised as MG Rover specifically states for the KV6. The full procedure is in Haynes. This is the easiest way to remove an air lock.
Simon.
