Default Creative SB Audigy 2 on Vista

Has anyone with Windows Vista got a Creative Audigy 2 PCI sound card?

If so, have you found serious drivers for it?

The Vista drivers from Creative's website are absolutely useless - they have nothing like the quality of the Audigy drivers for Windows 2000 & Windows XP.

The sound quality of the Vista drivers is truly pathetic, there's no wellie and the programme suite has none of the facilities that were present in the Win2K/XP drivers - e.g. the Creative sound mixer.

Any ideas folks?

Creative Audigy 2 & Creative Inspire 2.1 stereo speakers:
On Windows 2000 & Windows XP - not far off studio quality with Adobe Audition. You can fill the room with sound. Infinitely tweakable.
Windows Vista on the same machine with the same card & speakers - downright awful. Wouldn't fill a Fiat 500.

Known problem with this great Sound Card for Vista users I'm afraid.
No real solution, another of the Problems of using Vista.

That's what I thought John. I just wondered if anyone outside Creative had written proper Vista drivers for this card - it's superb on W2K & XP.

What is wrong with these hardware companies? They could modify the existing drivers in no time. Idiotic behaviour.

I just switched back to the W2K hard drive and am listening to Chris Rea's The Road to Hell - it sounds fairly awesome.

The same track on Vista sounds pathetic.

You could try the KX Project drivers,

http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/

but to be honest I consigned my audigy 2 platinum to the workshop, at least I can still use it on my XP machine, unlike my AWE64 Gold ISA card thats sitting gathering dust out there. (it was rendered obsolete in only 3 years) remember the card is 6 years old now, and good though it is, I'm afraid its like HD DVD and Beta-max, its had its day. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and move on.

Creative USA are still selling the Audigy SE card and the spec sheet says it's suitable for Vista. The software tab lists all the features that came with the Platinum but hardly any of them work with the Vista drivers. http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=205&product=142 57&nav=2

All in all, a bit of a con.

What Creative actually want you to do is buy the X-Fi which is really a beefed up Audigy with proper drivers.

The kX driver could be worth a shot although the latest version appears to be 2004 so it probably won't run on Vista. It does have a mixer though so I may give it a try.

Betamax would have blown VHS out of the water if Sony had got their act together. If they'd launched first, VHS (being the worst system ever invented) would never have got off the ground.

I'm also in the position of consigning my Audigy 2zs to the "Expensive scrap bin".

What alternative do you use please?
