Default 75CDT tourer running problem

Hi

My Rover 75 CDT tourer has been running reasonably ok with just slight hesitation around 2500rpm and a little sluggish below 2000 rpm indicating the MAF is not perfect but the car has been driveable with good power and top end performance.

However on my 50 mile journey to work today in heavy rain at motorway speed the car started to hold back and became sluggish - difficult to get the car above 1800 rpm in top gear regardless of how far the accelerator pedal was pushed - There is no engine management light showing but the car seems to be in some sort of limp home type restricting mode.

It is also very sluggish to pull away and feels very restricted.

The car had half tank of diesel in so i filled it up to full and the restriction is still there.

There are no abnormal noises from the engine and when stationary in neutral gear the engine revs freely up to the redline.

The car has been running fine and maybe the rain this morning has caused a problem ??

Car is parked up at work at the moment - Anyone experienced similar or have any suggestions - ?

Is there a way to check any stored codes etc....

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick and welcome along to the forum.

It sounds like your MAF has been out of spec for a while and now died to be fair! If rain has got into the air intake then water may have contaminated it further and caused its demise.

You could unplug it from the engine and see if power returns.. OK for a quick fix but you will be using much more fuel..

There are many posts in the forum regarding this..

Also, as a matter of security, I'd remove your telephone number from your post... We have honest, helpful and true members in our forum, but many who get here by Googling and such may not be!!

Regards, Steve

Thanks Starman

I will try disconnecting the MAF wiring connector at lunch time to see if power returns.

The car is a 2003 model with both under bonnet and in tank fuel pumps - could this be a fuel pump problem ?
I was thinking rain contaminated MAF

I would be suprised if rain has got to the MAF, I know everyone says it over and over but have you checked your plenums??? because if the ECU side has water in it can cause all sorts of problems

This does sound like a dead or dying MAF , exact same symptoms I experienced with my first CDT.

New maf and all the power returned.
Good idea to check your plenum chamber though as advised.
