Default How to proove if lower crank pulley needs replacing CDTi's

Boo chaps!
Yes we're after a lower pulley too for Mrs Jules ZT.
At 62k miles it has not failed yet but making a scrunching noise first few minutes when cold.

To prove it's the pulley simply aim water spray at the centre of the pulley.
The rubber cushioning gets some temporary lubrication from the water which shuts the noise up until it dries out again

Hoping to get a pulley before it collapses altogether and does some damage
Not cheap at around £200.36, and the motor factors don't seem to stock a pattern part yet.
OEM part number is: LHG100750 Torsional vibration damper-engine crankshaft

Take a look at the Lower pulley (torsional damper)
Peel back wheel arch liner.

You might see shiny/rusty rub marks on it.
There should be 0.5- 1mm clearance gap between the 2 moving surfaces.
We've changed many of these now and it amazing how it transforms a rough engine once again into a smooth one.

But sometimes there's just nothing visibly wrong with the pulley, but changing it out cures many noises & vibrations.

ie no more blurred rear view mirror images!!

Insufficient clearance will result in rubbing marks like this

Regards
