Default Oil & dirt on carpet...

So the guy at the breakers who removed the parcel shelf managed to get his oily grubby paws all over it. It isn't horrendous but certainly needs some attention.

Any advice please on the best way to tackle it?

Thanks.

I had the same on my illuminated sun visors when I bought them!

Cleaned mine with some Autoglym Tar and Glue remover and a clean cloth, came up a treat!

Thank you, but I can't imagine that would work on the carpet-like material covering the parcel shelf.

Funnily enough I do need to clean the visors also, so the tip is appreciated!

Household all purpose cleaner should do it, but it will clean it rather well, you'll probably need to do the whole thing to avoid a clean patch!

That's what I'm a bit nervous about, using a product that may damage it...

I bought a few carpet and upholstery cleaner from pound land to try and get some very bad marks out of an old Kia Sedona I bought as a run around. Much to my amazement it really worked, and have used it on the house carpet. Even using a scrubbing brush there was no damage to the fabric.

Yeah its pretty tough material. The stuff they sell as 'interior cleaner' in 5 litre containers for £20 with a brand name on it pretty much just fruity smelling Tesco Daisy or flash liquid thats £1 a litre..

Vanish carpet foam works well, but yes, you will probably end up cleaning the whole thing.

I had a similar situation with new carpet put down at home. The fitter had just laid it and I was replacing the furniture back when some grease of one of the castors left a black oily mark bang in the middle. Solution, the fitter said no problem and used a white absorbent cloth and white spirit. Don't scrub at it just dab. Sounds drastic but it worked with no damage to carpet and completely removed the stain.

I've used thinners on a wet cloth for years with no ill effect.

My son once spilt a full tin of white paint over our brown hall carpet.
Half an hour later it was good as new.
