Stereo flickering when lights are on.
I am hoping someone can help me here please. I have just installed a nice shiny Clarion VZ402E single Din source unit.
Everything was going fine until I went out tonight, When i started the car the stereo Slid out came on and looked gorgeous, however as soon as I turned the car lights on it started to resemble a disco with the display flickering like crazy. Does anyone have any ideas please.

Is the illumination wire connected to the radio? Either it's connected to the wrong thing, or the radio itself is faulty.

Also, if your car has standard ISO connectors, the illumination wire should be on pin A6 as below. Some cars have BMW wiring for the radio, but I'm not sure which pin it is on that.

Unfortunatly my car has a mixture of all sorts. I have the standard BMW plug right down behind the ashtray, then where the stereo is I have standard DIN plugs ( albeit with the pins for the steering controls missing ) and also the Kenwood black plug.
I do have a standard loom that I got from the scrap yard knocking about somewhere...I got it to try and get my steering wheel controls working but never managed it

Here we are a little video. What I did just notice was that the unit only flickers when the lights are on and the engine is running ( you can hear me turn the car on at approx 28 seconds ).

Have you got coming from your BMW plug ISO connectors to go into the back of your clarion unit. ?
If so, check pin 1 in the large grey iso plug. This is a red/green wire in the rover loom, you colour may be different. This wire in pin 1 large grey iso is for the telephone mute and it should be disconnected. Pins 2 and 3 are for steering wheel controls but you will need an interface unit to work with the clarion unit. Dave T |

Check the dimmer wheel on your light switch move it up and down a few times see if that makes a difference
