Default Water cooled EGR

How come some diesel R75's have a water cooled EGR but not all? What are the real world advantages a water cooled EGR?

I wish to keep my EGR unit working for it contributes to a quicker warm up, and I mainly drive short journeys. I understand this means from time to time I will have to clean the inlet manifold etc.
