Sorting out gremlins in a '52 diesel automatic Tourer 75
On the experience of having a diesel saloon, I have purchased a diesel tourer as well. It has a few gremlins. I apologise for my saga, but there are a few things that are confusing me.
The battery is new and fully charged. Whilst the car was described as drivable, the was no LHR indicator, no repeater indicators, no RHF indicator, no NS dipped headlight, no OS main beam headlamp, no dashboard illumination, et al!! Not fun when driving in the dark!! This turned out to be a poor contact in the main power feed (one of two) for the LSM from the engine fusebox, FL9. Fixing all those faults cheered me up tremendously. The wing mirrors were initially not working. After much button pressing, gradually they improved, and are now working. I put this down to a lack of use of the buttons. The Hiline IPK can display faults in amber or red. While faults ARE displayed on the LCD, there is no RED backlighting (the amber backlighting works ok). Apart from the obvious (that there is a fault in the IPK red backlighting), is there anything else that can STOP the RED backlighting from working? The reversing sensors have a fault. Sometimes it gives a ~5 second long tone and nothing else, which I presume indicates a fault. (Most of the time it makes NO noise at all.) The rear bumper has been removed, all wiring to the sensors checked for damage, disconnected and reconnected, as well as all wiring to the Rover Parking Aid VHC105180, which has no corrosion inside it or leaking electrolytic capacitors. Any ideas please? I suspect a damaged bumper sensor. I also have a permanent amber "Brake Pad Low" warning, which could be the sensor or the wiring to the sensor, to be fixed at a later time. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Last edited by MarkS; 6th April 2017 at 17:38.. Reason: Added Brake Pad Low warning. |
