Replacing the MAF with the Bosch unit is, IMHO, the best way to go.

Fitting the Pierburg MAF and Synergy requires you to notify your insurer as the vehicle is then 'modified'.

I don't worry about about such things with insurers, I know it is possibly a contentious subject but I run my other car with over double the original BHP, big brakes and with the suspension slammed into the ground and the insurer finds out about very few of these things!

I unplugged the MAF sensor in my car over a month ago and immediately noticed it ran so much smoother and had more power at low revs. Also what appeared to be a clutch judder went as well. Another advantage has been the fuel economy... this has actually improved. A win win situation all round!

So, why bother spending over £200 on a MAF replacement, what will it do to improve the way my car runs at the moment with NO MAF?

When you disconnect the maf the ecu relies on a back up value that will get you by.

It's not ideal and although an improvement on a failed maf it does and can not give the best in either power and economy as it cannot see the changes in airflow or temperature that control the fuelling properly.

If it were as simple as disconnecting it the manufacturers wouldn't bother fitting a maf in the first place

To get the best from the car an original spec Bosch maf is needed, nothing else comes close.
