Default Handbrake compensator needed

Hello Guys, wonder if anyone here can help or point me in the right direction in a little bit of a pickle at the moment.
My ZT V8 went for MOT last week and failed on broken rear springs and handbrake. Summit Motors (Dudley) have the car and will be replacing the springs next week.
Problem is they cannot get the nut off the handbrake to add any washers which is what they must have done in the past, I have suggetsed it needs to have the compensator replaced. So where howdo I go about getting this resolved. I'm in Great Barr car is in Dudley now MOT failure

Any advise welcome

Thanks

Paul
