£670 Belts + Water Pump
Hi all I've got a 2004 MG ZT 2.4 V6 180 with 42k on the clock so I understand that the belts need changing urgently!
I've been quoted £670 by my local garage to supply and fit 4 belts plus 2 tensioners and the water pump. Does this seem like a fair price? Should I ask them to keep the old parts? Is there any thing else I should ask them? Many thanks, Pat Last edited by Patnut; 11th March 2013 at 14:02.. |

Did they tell you it was 4 belts? I always thought the KV6 engines had 3.
Probably an ok price for London. If you fancy a trip to the midlands my suggestion would be Lates, they are members on here. Have a very good reputation, specialise in MG-Rover cars and don't charge the earth. You'd need to check price with them, but the website estimate is £500 for belts and tensioners. They do get busy though so you might have to wait a week or two to get booked in. They do work weekends, so you might not need to take time off work. They are based in the Coventry area. http://www.lates600.com

You should be able to get the job done for around £150 - £200 cheaper than you have been quoted

Think yourself lucky, my local garage wanted £2500 to do head gaskets and servo on my v6 160, Sean doing all of this work, belts, water pump and loads of other stuff for £1800. Cannot express my gratitude enough to actually find a decent garage (admittedly on this fantastic forum) that actually looks after its customers without ripping them off. Top bloke Sean, would recommend anywhere. Looking forward to getting my baby back all sorted soon. £10 subscription, well and truly worth every penny

The work was done by Thompsons Motors (Industry Lane, Leith). £584 +VAT = £700.80. (May 2012). Mileage then was 39,922, but car was nearly 10 years old. The belts that came off were not excessivley worn, but worth doing for peace of mind!
