Any ideas please
I have the hiline sat nav tv unit in my car and the nav has never worked properly.
I have changed the thimble unit and also the disc drive to no avail. Sometimes the unit freezes ie when listening to the radio and I cannot even turn it off. It hasnt done this for a few months now. The other day it was slow to respond. I changed the song on the cd and even though the new song was playing it was still showing up the old song number on the screen. Now onto the satnav. When using the satnav the cursor seems to drive off into a field and wont get back on track for the rest of the Journey. Paul(reebs) showed me how to reset the cursor which worked for a couple of minutes then started going off course again. Does anybody know how to sort this out please. I sometimes have the little gps stars showing on the screen and it goes off course even then. Thanks in advance Thomas |

First thing I would check is the BUS voltage at each device. That could easily cause such a misbehaving.
In my car the BUS is white and red with some yellow dots. May or may not be the same in your car, but should be at or close to 12V. There are pinout diagrams available by searching "BMW Sat Nav Pinout" etc. There may be corrosion somewhere, easily unnoticed in the boot above the nav drive.

Hey Thomas
If you'd like we can have a look at it together during PoL. We can for instance swap our units (I have MK4) and see if it makes any difference. For instance if your nav unit still misbehaves in mine then the fault is clearly identified as being with your drive. Same for the radio module, although now that I have a BM54, and modded the harness for Intravee connectivity, might not be so easy to swap with yours. I also have an iBus interface fitted to my car, so we can check your units with Navcoder too.
