Question is it the clutch ?

Well here's the problem. Over last few weeks my 75 Saloon has been taking a long time to build up speed - labours on hills . I depress the accelerator , engine revs but the response take a long time with the engine spinning away. I suspect clutch slip . It's a diesel , 66k miles and has been running fine. Any views welcome because I would rather take views from this experienced forum first before going to any of the local garages . I want to get some measure of the size of task / cost so I can budget out of pension!
On a separate tack - anyone interested in saving a special edition 75 , off roaded by owner due to cost estimate from a garage but , having investigated , it's pretty obvious they likely got it wrong and the true remedy is quite simple. From my examination it's a classic case of a flooded plenum. Owner does not know what a plenum is , or what an ecu is. I reconnected this car and it started first time ! I would like to save it but ( let's put it this way) not everyone in my family is keen on 'another car around the house' !!
All the best.

What`s the bite like with handbrake on.
I think someone will come along and say Maff...if it`s not clutch.
Now I only know what I have read here and if it`s Maff related the advice probably be to disconnect it and see how it runs then.
Ken.
