Exclamation 75 ZT Owners @ MG-R Ireland Dublin 10/10/2015

Date – 10th October 2015
Time – 17.00 to 22.00 hrs
Location – Applegreen, Mountgorry, Swords, Dublin
(1st Applegreen when heading North from Dublin airport)

Recently a new facebook group has begun for southern owners of modern classic MG and Rover cars. Many of these owners have been regular attendees to classic events all over the ROI and to several events in NI driving the length of the country to spend time with like-minded enthusiasts such as ourselves.

At the Trim classic show it was discussed by many of them in a croud to put together an event in the hope to bring more owners in Ireland out who perhaps aren’t aware of the various clubs and groups.

I had planned to organise an event for the 75 ZT Ireland owners in the south around the same time so now instead we will on the day join them to help promote their start up group. We shall join them at their meet and make this part of our events for ROI owners.

The Applegreen was chosen for a combination of fantastic access, wonderful facilities such as disabled toilets, restaurants, fuel, kids play area, excellent open parking spaces and most importantly for the time of year, the whole area is flood lit also.

Legal stuff....

Should you find yourself dealing with the Garda Síochána be very aware since July 2015 the Road Safety Authority Ireland has began to implement multiple campaigns in regarding 3 aspects. Car legality, driver responsibility and driver safety. Irish road safety week is from 5th to 11th of October 2015.

I can’t advise you enough to always carry your driving licence, vehicle registration document (V5), and certificate of motor insurance. If your licence does not incorporate a photograph ensure you carry your passport to validate the licence. If the vehicle is not registered in your name, carry a letter from the registered owner giving you permission to drive.

Since June 2014 using a mobile phone either with a Bluetooth head set device or hands free has been illegal if you are the driver of the car.

Additionally drink / drug driving legislation is better enforced than our own. 0.05% over the limit or 0.02% for learner drivers, newly qualified drivers (those who have their license for less than two years) and professional drivers, and those who do not have their driving license on them when stopped by the Gardaí (police).

Police do not need a reason to request a breath sample. Being convicted of drunk driving usually carries a 2-year ban as well as a €1500 fine. The fine is enforceable in NI.

Be careful, be legal, be safe.

Well lads and ladies, the crack was ******* mighty this evening.Big thanks to everyone who came out, travelled all sorts, kept the promise to come out in general had a laugh and a big hand of respect to Patsy for bringing out his 62 year old rover p4 100 model. Got lots of attention and questions from the younger ones as always!

There was the slight issue of we got the wrong Applegreen on the map, but it's now been proven it wasn't my fault but all met up at the right one in the end.

With the "hardcore" last 6 cars left until after 9pm when the zt's headed back up north.

No doubt the car of the meet in my eyes was the super rare Sunspot Yellow ZS v6 180, but I'd of happily taken home any car on the day.as everyone's car was so clean and well presented.

Roll on end January / start of February weather permitting folks for next one. Plans are happening already, this one will be much bigger and better!
