Non rover but any experts focus tdci turbo whine
Hi all. Has anyone got experience of a focus turbo diesel. I can fix a rover blindfolded and have always taken the focus for granted. It's had a small whine for a while which I thought was a alternator but it's got noticeably worse today but not dramatic yet. Doing a stick test with an extension bar I've narrowed the noise to the exhaust manifold area which I assume holds the turbo and any egr etc. It's a 1.8 58 plate.

Easy way to get rid of the whine, vacate the passenger seat.
Serious answer:- My sister in laws diesel Focus started doing this, turned out to be a (nearly completely) blocked cat.

My turbo on my diesel 45 got rather loud a few weeks before it died altogether (though it did make a noise like an angle-grinder on steel about a day before it did). I'd be suspecting an air leak downstream of the compressor or worn bearings.
