SSD or HDD
I have an eeepc that needs to be returned due to a faulty keyboard, the company do not have a direct replacement in stock. They have offered me a Linux Based version with a 20Gb SSD drive in which I can install XP if needed or for £24 a 10" version with XP & an 80Gb HDD.
What are the benefits of SSD apart from being lighter ? Is the Linux version the best bet as I don't need a large HD? Current model has 12Gb SSD with XP. Thanks |

SSD is lighter, no moving parts, quicker and will last longer. The down side: cost and "big capacity drive" limitations (i.e. not sure you can find SSD drives with as much capacity as HD drives)
I have not used an eeePC. As for OpenOffice (FREE Office Suite sponsored by Sun that will run on Linux) vs MS Office, I use OpenOffice at home on Vista. It is an excellent piece of kit that easily competes with MS Office for home use. And that is coming from a big Microsoft fan, and someone that uses MS Office extensively at work. |

Thanks for your reply's, I will go for the Linux one, & install XP if need be.
I have tried OpenOffice this evening & I like it, I do use Excel 2007 but from what I have read version 3 will be available soon. The only button I couldn't find in Calc is an Autosum button, is there one? Steve I have the 901 same as 900 but with Intel atom cpu, but the best bit is the battery lasts 6-7 hours James |
